THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I think that they are going through a restructuring. I know Erimus deleted me from his Friends List (that was just before April 29th though and was probably just for OPSEC purposes) which made me kind of sad :( I'll have to get him to add me back for the next Distant Worlds.

Restructuring... In the corporate world, that usually means "we're doing so rubbish at whatever is we're meant to be doing, that we feel we need to... reorganise ourselves into a different shape, so we can do it badly again, but in a different way".

Just sayin'

Edited... I've got another green blob! <<<<< :D

Get some ointment from your doctor.

Wasn't there an 'X' in the corner of that message to make it go away? I don't see it and I vaguely remember killing it.

There's no 'may' - this thread 'WILL' contain tinfoil.

Except tinfoil is made from aluminium, ok for shielding electromagnetic radiation of long wavelength but of little practical use against x-rays and cosmic rays and Thargoid weapons; it is also quite floppy in large sheets and tends to tear when used to cover large area of the body.

I am researching a novel material derived from wood pulp (I am thinking of calling it "cardboard") which will be stiffer than tinfoil, onto which tinfoil might be affixed to achieve greater strength and rigidity. I am considering further development with the aim of affixing thin foils of lead onto said cardboard, and from said material producing a line of appropriate items of shielded clothing for explorers. I may call the first model "leaderhosen".

I predict if your clay has too much organic material in it when you fire it you'll be sad.

But he could apply a salt glaze, there's plenty lying around now.

And strangely, it is always the management (that have caused the problem) "restructuring" the workers who apply the real effort. Very rarely is the management restructured.

There is an interesting article about organisational dynamics on line (https://pdfs.semanticscholar.org/49f1/e4d7525a20be02a0540509147dd2f4642ffa.pdf) about agent-based architectures with "the ability of populations of agents to organize themselves and adapt dynamically to changing circumstances without top-down control".

In such circumstances I am minded to think that the workers should be sacking the management and organising themselves (rather like this thread).

Of course the premise does rather rely on the agents not being petty-minded pitchfork-wielding idiots. So not much use for governing a country then.

I've got 905 points but 8 blobs, go figure.
And I'm also Deadly- must be my rapier wit. ;)

And I have no idea what the green blobs are supposed to represent. I just type random inflammatory gibberish into this text box and then click "Post Quick Reply". :)

Clearly then they are a random, inflammatory gibberish yardstick! I mean it isn't rocket science here...

:)

I'll have a read of that later - cheers [up] Has to be a virtual +1 though!

Definitely right about who gets reorganised though. Happening at this very moment within my employer - a large co from an industrious european country. And it's a mess.

There is a recent thread where somebody asked how forum ranks are worked out, on of the FDev community guys (I think it was BrettC) explained that in essence the rank is to based on the number of posts and the green blobs are to do with the amount of rep you recieve. This struck me as a bad idea as we now have the scenario where thread spammers are destined to become elite.

So yeah, your self styled Inflammatory gibberish --> post quick reply seems like a very salient plan :)

Yeah ... that was weird. I was asleep when the hexediting took place but trying to make heads or tales of what was being said in the thread ... it felt like I was missing half the conversation. At least until I caught up to where people were talking about the hexedit itself and I had some context. :)

Was a fairly amusing time, but only if you could remember what was amusing. Generally, we couldn't remember what was amusing, which was confusing, but only until we forgot why we were confused in the first place.

So, overall, we were neither amused nor confused, until we were, which we forgot.

It takes about two years of eight posts a day to become 'forum Elite'. I doubt the title comes with much glory. Spamming your way to Elite, would be rather sad. [blah]

I was reading it at the time and I was wondering where the heck were the missing posts and pages going to.... Being sure there had been a page 716 and being able to read that page in one browser tab, while refreshing another only showing 715 was enough to make me think huh Have I totally lost my grip on reality.?

Dont worry - I've no intention of doing that - I even edited this post to add a reply to Han_Zen who must have been typing at the same time as me, rather than spamming with a separate post :)

Rapier... that would make a good name for an SLF [yesnod]

Rapier is the name of my Viper MKIII.

OT:
Organizing a group of humans is difficult. Everybody has their own ideas. Communication can result in misunderstandings and everybody needs to be treated slightly different in order to keep them happy.

For a group of players this can be a challange, if those how organize the group aren't natural leaders or aren't used to organize a group. Making errors is inevitable and the feelings of people will get "hurt" in one way or an other.

For the lack of better words: public relations and human resource management becomes more and more important the bigger the organization gets. Organizing this aspects of a group, often for players is a distraction from their core intentions or they simply don't think about it.

And all this without the problems that arise from different egos trying to get control or the usual drama majestic person making things even more complicated.

The result of all this is, that I think it's often better to attribute a lot of negative looking things to the lack of experience and not to malice.

But you do it with such style!

Sympathies; unless you're in the management! ;)

I'm gonna do it. I'm visiting every thread in every sub forum and pasting "I disagree" in the comment box. I should be Elite by noon. ;)
