THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

What are all us theorycrafters going to do once we're kicked out into unemployment with the closure of the rift mystery? The seemingly obvious answer to me is Raxxla, but we'd be working with even less than we started with here if I'm not mistaken.

Perhaps we'll stake claim to it and create a camp of refuge for redundant rifters in the coming months.

I'll pay money at Fdev store if they make a T-shirt that says "I helped solve Formidine Rift Mystery and all I got was a gankfest and this T-shirt".

I'll pay 5X money at Fdev store if they make a T-shirt that says "I was a groupie and followed Formidine Rift Mystery for years, and all I got was getting ganked by Rifters and this T-shirt".

Hint, FDev, hint.

I can't rep you again - but in reality I cannot rep this enough - the original spirit of the event was to include as much of the ED community as possible, and ALL are welcome to participate in any way shape or form.

Yet any random passing around will get shot to death without asking any questions. Not only randoms, also people involved in the event and Salomé supporters will get shot for carrying weapons. And I thought carrying weapons when there will be fighting was a logical choice.

So yeah, all are welcome to participate only if you obey certain strict rules made by a small group of people, else you are out. Not so different from the evil Federals or Imperials, eh?

And on those notes, another PSA from our friends at PAC Discord announcements:

@everyone crying to Drew because we said your ship will be killed for x, y, z reason isn't going to change anything. If you don't follow the plan we carefully crafted for safety and security purposes, your ship will be blown up. And it will be your own fault. If you want to help, be helpful. Don't be proud and stubborn. That being said, everyone is welcome to join, we're all adults so we can make our own decisions. Just know that you reap the rewards of your decision. If that means a 65 mil cutter rebuy cuz you couldn't swallow your pride, so be it.

I would reiterate that: what do you have to lose? A hour or two of time and whatever your rebuy is. I bet it will be different from your usual mission running honk and scan gameplay.

Wow. What incredible killjoys.

Well give them a break - they have a book to write. I brought cheap Courier so i don't mind getting killed, that said, there's no one in my instance right now, and i'm not that drunk yet to have misjumped a system, so i don't see anyone at all during the event just because i'm a USican, that'd suck.

I've been trying to give them the benefit of the doubt as I know they're under a lot of pressure to succeed, but every announcement they make is like a siphon specifically targeting any enjoyment that independent players might gain from trying to participate.

Unless PAC can somehow reach out and pull your network plug they're doing exactly nothing preventing you from showing up in whatever form you want. The folks out to kill Salome are going to pretty much shoot anything that moves. Some (ie PAC is not all defenders) of the defenders have opted to for a "shoot anything that's armed" mentality since this will be way too fast paced to distinguish friend from foe.

There isn't an usher at the event with pro-Salome seating to the left and anti-Salome to the right, it's a free for all and pretty much everybody will be shooting at everybody. PAC deserves some credit for figuring out a way not to kill innocent bystanders, or at least trying not to.

Regardless, nobody is stopping anybody from doing whatever they want, they couldn't if they wanted to. So do whatever you want, you probably won't succeed since you may be at cross purposes to somebody else but they can't stop you from trying.

Problem is, the event will take place on Saturday evening here. At this point I'd rather go out for dinner and some beers, to be honest.

Well a certain CMDR stopped by my instance and i even let him interdict me. But then he just disappeared (no wake for me to scan), and now there's nobody... which is fine if event didn't even start, but if it's past 46 eridani, i'd be annoyed. Just letting you know.

Let the Rigelian vinemonkeys run their little body guard show.
The don't have any controll over Sally and the others.

Send them messages. Be creative. Something fun might happen. :)

I suspect that they'll be a little too busy for chatting :D
That said, I've roleplayed the hell out of this thing up to this point, so Salome knows where to find me if she wants to talk to the Independent Rift Explorers Alliance

CMDR Drew Carnegie
With a space ;)

I get that. And I agree. But at the same time, how could it be any other way? I know this is a game, but this is an objective driven mission with consequences and no do-overs. We all get rebuys - the VIPs don't.

I imagine this from the POV of the Secret Service. You think they'd allow open carry at a presidential rally? Let someone carrying an AR-15 and a big smile on his face walk up and shake hands with the President? Sure, you can trust him! He's smiling!

As much as I'd like a free and open way for everyone to get in and take part their own way, casually or not, independantly or in groups, I can't help but think that that is exactly what those who want her dead would like most. It's the most vulnerable scenario, the one that can be most easily exploited. It's like calling for an army and getting a hodge podge of people with anything from pitchforks to rocket launchers, then just letting them do their own thing and hope for the best when the enemy comes.

Believe me, I feel like I'm being left out in the cold here as well. But I'm not going to be bitter about it. I just wish I had the time and commitment to have been a bigger part of it.

But, yeah, a lot of the PAC statements coming out do sound really arrogant.

The game is called Elite, not EliteIST.

Wait, so PACs plan is to gank innocent commanders with good intent who are easy kills while the VIPs, who by that time are several jumps away, are being scragged by CMDRs that wish them harm? PAC think this policy will also convince those that turn up to come gunless, have they played this game at all since release?

Still, at least we can all point the finger at them when it all hits the fan :)

Yep, you've pretty much summed up what I think of the strategy. I mean, if only they targeted armed ships with interdictors, that would make more sense...
