THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Cobblers, you got suckered good and proper - and if you hadn't insisted on bringing SDC into the fold and trying to disarm everyone else they would've been toast. SDC are very, very good pvp'rs, but they wouldn't have survived being kos to all friendlies on the day - they wouldve got tangled up in the sheer numbers.
You got suckered.

People warned them, they chose to ignore that warning.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post here.

People making uninformed, unfounded posts with incorrect information. They here a rumor and latch onto it as truth.

An exert from my post:

There have been lots of posts perpetuating information that's untrue, and that in fact already been cleared up in previous posts. I'd like to think most here would post informed messages, where they would have vetted the information, or at least stayed up to date, but it seems the need to sling mud, cast blame, and launch personal attacks was too strong for some.

I'm going to say this for hopefully that last damn time: CoR NEVER brought SDC into the fold... ever. This has been repeated many times. SDC was never trusted and always seen as hostile with CoR ranks. PAC however made their own decision regarding SDC.

This is going to be shocking to some so brace yourselves:

PAC =/= CoR

- 2 different groups
- each had their own server
- each had their own roles
- each ahd their own strategy
- each had their own training

For the last damn time, separate the 2 in your minds, and fact check your statements before posting anything.

FRONT PAGE UPDATED with a few links to messages from Drew about the event on the 29th.

Now, can we PLEASE return this thread to it's sombre, slow placed hiding place of wild speculation and crazy theories, and stop going on about who killed who.....

If you want to talk further about events on the 29th, and the player groups involved, please choose one of the MANY Salome event posts in Dangerous Discussions. Please reserve this thread for related mysteries. What's still out in the rift, who is behind it all, and where we can focus our attention next. I don't want to get a mod in here again......!

I will add more detailed summaries to the front page when relevant parties come forward with concise versions of events from their viewpoints.

Are we allowed to discuss who killed Rebecca? :p
Sorry, just returning the thread to it's sombre, slow placed hiding place of wild speculation, crazy theories and smart-alec comments ;)

Soon a bright young teenager will appear on the scene. A girl about 12 who looks an awful lot like Salome and Rebecca now that you think about it. And strange enough, she has memories from a past long before she was born.

I'm hoping for more of a Buffy vibe, with Luko playing the role of Watcher.

That's all well and nice - we are to believe that CoR had no say or influence over PAC, right fine....
sigh... ok, last I'll say on the subject..... if we ever have any kind of similar event in the future, please people don't follow the lead of any self appointed group or groups - do what makes sense to you.

And a blog on the 'Aftermath'. ;) https://www.drewwagar.com/announcements/aftermath/

Cheers,

Drew.

Feedback from me:

Appreciate your efforts, but this should have been an organised Community Goal where 1000's of CMDRs could have participated over a period of time to ascertain a result - instead of trying to cram everyone in to tiny instances for pvp over a hour or so - which ultimately resulted in only a select few being able to participate. Saying that her fate was sealed by what the community did or did-not do is a bit of an overstatement.

Sorry to see the majority of people frustrated and upset, this probably hurt the community as a whole - and judging by all the negative reactions, interest in the Salome storyline in general.

Dear friends of the Rift thread:

So i just finished getting caught up on ALL the posts from the last 36 hours (I must be a glutton for punishment) and it seems this community has a much different feel from where it was even a few months ago. Nowhere near as friendly to be sure. It was the rift mystery and the previous rift threads and the people in them that convinced me to buy the game in the first place. I had followed every rift thread and read every post with keen fervor, mostly lurking at the beginning, but still felt like i was getting to know all of you. As time went on I got more and more involved, made some friends, made some discoveries, and it had been one of the best experiences in my 25+ year PC gaming career (so to speak).

Reading everything on the very thread that I have come to love that's been posted over the last day or two has left me feeling a bit disappointed, and let down. Some peoples attitudes have been reprehensible. There's definitely some newer faces on the thread that seem to be much more toxic than the old guard, and that's a shame as it seems to have shifted the ambiance of this thread away from its original friendly nature of mutual discovery and exploration that we all shared. This has left me feeling saddened. It's like being betrayed by old friends.

At this point, i sincerely hope we can put all this behind us and get back to the helpful, friendly, and supportive attitudes that set this thread apart from all the rest in the first place. We still have much to figure out and there's plenty of tinfoil to go around.

That, and now my head hurts from all the facepalming.

Blablabla. You CoR were who lost this battle. Don´t point in other direction

I would say "Here here!" but I see the return of the thread to the Rift lasted all of 22 minutes....

Disagree entirely.
A CG would have been a massively anti-climactic way to produce the ending of both the book and the Rift mystery.
Thousands of CMDRs, yes, but doing exactly what they always do. At least this even was both memorable and different.

In addition, it's a foregone conclusion that CoR would have won the CG, just as they did the previous exploration one.

Now with Sausage Gravy©

And please, refer not to TDC (The Dead Chick); we sure love our acronyms too.

Too soon?

I take your point and this certainly was a memorable event.

But stating that "Salomé’s death was the result of you, the Elite Dangerous community, what you did and didn’t do." is certainly tarring us all with a very wide brush, considering how many willing community members were simply not able to participate because of the game's limitations and how quickly it was resolved.

True, it's always going to be impossible for the entire community to be involved in a one-off event of this nature - but equally, the entire community doesn't get involved with every CG, so that doesn't really resolve the issue.

I'd suggest that a representative sample of the community took part (personally I felt it should have leaned more heavily to explorers, but our lives aren't exactly exciting), so I don't consider the statement wildly inaccurate.

ps
I like grown-up disagreement much more than antagonistic WAAAHing, so Rep to you :)

Question: Are the actions of the other 'special' NPC commanders sanctioned by Drew, or did Yuri go off-book when he came and collected the mystery escape pod.

Ok what's the news on Farsight Expedition base out in Soul (?) Anyone found a settlement or POI since 2.3 dropped? Any beacons around Zurara? Cmon folks wake up! Galaxy to save here!
