THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Even if the Zurara is unavailable as a "Rifter's Base" (After asking FDev, who knows they may have plans for it down the line) we could always petition for the Heart Nebula asteroid base to be our home, Create a minor faction there instead. Services are pretty minimal right now, and that's where a CG could come in to expand available services, and open up "Persephone's Bar & Lounge" :D

Just my 2 cents as a plan B [yesnod]

Great minds think alike:

The Formidine Rifters already exist as a Player group (thank you LuckyLuke). Maybe we can ask that we be created as a faction and placed at one of the H&S asteroid bases. There are two, right? I've been out at Colonia and haven't visited yet.

EDIT: The benefit of having a station this far out would be not having to worry a great deal (or really at all) about the BGS or PowerPlay.

You may not want "Intruders" on this thread, but I'd certainly support that faction base.

Might have been said overnight (in the UK at least!), but if FD allow a new base to be created, why not a research facility in an asteroid somewhere inside the rift, or, better yet, a science-orientated megaship (they're meant to be dockable, aren't they) that can move around the rift as necessary to carry out research, investigate sightings, beacons and the like?

Just a matter of venting...

The fallen should be treated with appropriate consideration for them and their families. It would be appropriate for them to be interred on the terraformed planet & their families should be passengered out for the funeral.

Ir's almost like we need a poll. If only we had some forum software that would allow us to do that...

But with a full set of choices, like do you want a Rifters faction, do you want them to try & take over Zurara...
Don't fix the poll on a single yes/yes question

We were thinking of sending them over to the Gnosis before that happens. You guys still have an official janitor position don't you? Or has Derthek retired?

I haven't seen Derthek in a long time. Don't know if we have a new janitor? We could use it though. The smell of a warm Zurara is nothing compared to the Canonn meeting room, after a Lab69 party. [blah]

So many posts I want to reply to, but would be here all day if I did :) I've been pretty quiet lately, I personally find that the best thing to do after something big in-game. I am not a huge fan of crowds so I keep quiet until things settle down a bit again. I can tell myself in laying low for RP reasons as well - I'm investigating a shadowy and powerful group that wouldn't mind spacing me to ensure their secrecy, so too much blabbing isn't the most sensible idea...

Firstly, although I'm not an official Formidine Rifter, I still consider myself an unofficial associate of sorts. If the Rifters are a mob of old fellas sitting around the bar, drinking, smoking and telling stories - I'm the one over in the darkest corner on my own, intently listening and occasionally chiming in with my thoughts :D

I think it a great idea for a decal to be put in game. As for how to obtain it, I'm not sure how it all works, but maybe just something as simple as visiting the Zurara earns the decal? Yeah any old tourist could potentially get it, but I feel those willing to make the trip out there earn the decal fair and square.

As for book bundling, not for a decal, but I would think it fitting for a DrewW Bobblehead to be included in some kind of package. I wouldn't mind paying a bit extra to have this either. I can already envision DrewW nodding knowingly at me as I investigate and ponder the mysteries of the galaxy, a bobble head would be great :)

Whilst I support the idea of jury-rigging the Zurara to working order, I don't feel it necessary to have it as a Rifter base. Sort of goes against what the Rifters stand for in my opinion. I will load up my cutter Darlantan and haul cargo out no worries. But lets just focus on getting it started, leave it where it is as a memorial, and work on unravelling the mystery of who is behind it and for what purpose. I mean, come on, Rifters sleep in their ships, roamers, wanderers, nomads, vagabonds, not retirees with the most exciting thing on the agenda being bingo night.

If the rifters need a base to kick their feet up after a long trip out in the void - lets make it fit properly. One of those new Bar assets would work if they could get landing pads. The Persephone Bar seems to be the most popular drinking hole for the rifters, put that in game. Make sure it isn't flashy and loud, just a quiet little spot out of the way somewhere that serves Anlian Gin (plastic cups of course ;) ). A big sign up behind the bar saying "No Frakkin Galcop 'stards allowed" haha ok maybe that's a bit too much, but you get the point.

My investigations into the Dark Wheel and the CIEP have been slow going, had other matters to attend to. Did a quick fly-by of Soontill, nothing out of the ordinary that was immediately obvious, except I guess the "Secret Base" Tourist beacon. That only makes things more mysterious though, obviously the CIEP exist in Elite: Dangerous as well as the Dark Wheel, but tracking them is obviously not a simple task.

One thing that springs to mind is the Ryders, specifically the Ryder we have in game access to - Liz Ryder, the engineer. Has to be a connection there, damn I remember even doing an upgrade there and having her tell me "Right on, commander. That makes me sound old doesn't it!" She knows something, I'm sure of it. So when I have the time I will definitely be looking into that a bit more.

Anyway, that's just my thoughts on current matters, I will shuffle back over to my corner now [up]

Fly safe o7

This.
Think you've been contributing to the Rifter threads and puzzle solving for long enough to be counted as a Rifter; that should be the only criteria. Do like the idea of a DrewW bobblehead.
Edit: but which one? There are multiple clones: Darth Wagar? Panama Drew? Cartoon Drew?

But that seat in the dark corner at the back of the bar is already taken young lad! And Anlian gin is only for toffs, it's Lavian brandy that real spacers drink (from plastic cups that disintegrate after two hours of being filled so they don't clutter the garbage disposal or block the air recycling), it puts hair on your chest, and ears, but strangely not on the top of your head.
And definitely no 'stard Galcops, tax inspectors, or military!

Oh dang...

Sorry Jaiotu, I don't know how i missed that...

I don't mind intruders, the more the merrier!
I just don't like misinformation... muddy's the water and detracts from propper, accurate tin-foilery! :D

As fast as this thread has been moving I hate to think of some of the gems I might have missed. And don't be sorry ... good ideas deserve repeating. An asteroid base might be a good compromise considering those who don't want to disturb the Zurara.

Save some of the foil for the Starship Tinfoilprise.

I think, that maybe some minimal number of explored systems in the Formidine Rift area should be a criteria for earning the decal, let's say 50 or so.

That would have to be monitored by FD I think? I'm out there now, scanning systems, but I don't know if I'm the first or not. Many of them, yes, but maybe only because the data hasn't been sold by someone else yet... or I am genuinely the first.

Given that Megaships are already a thing in the FD arsenal, there's no reason why the Zurara needs to be the Rifters' ship - though I do appreciate the symbolic nature of the choice. But if it's decided that the Zurara should be retained as a POI museum to the Rift adventure, then so be it. We're told that Megaships will eventually gain docking facilities and more (bars, natch!), so perhaps the Rifters can be allocated one when that process is complete. Park it in the centre of the Rift/HG/Conflux triangle, or wherever the story has moved on to, and call it the FRS Bacofoil...

But with other factions already there, you have it, as well as a base which if the next part is in Hawkins Gap is about 15-20 LY from the action. Doesn't work for me, but I'd leave you all to it and wish you luck if you want to be anchored to that 1 area of space.

Having a Rifter-owned megaship would prevent any BGS-faction-takeover risks.

Imagine how... annoying it would be to have a single-location station taken over by a player faction. SDC for example, who I think are expanding into Colonia?

Allocated by who in an ingame sense. Cannon have a faction, base system, economy and so on, so it can be justified that this is what funded a megaship.

Player groups get a base in their chosen home system which can be considered as a new group gaining an existing site through growing numbers within the BGS.

Colonia has involved hard work getting on the list and shipping things out there so it's been funded by hard graft.

Can't see how us suddenly and magically getting a new station or megaship could be justified. I certainly don't see Sirius or Wreaken deciding to gift us one and with no established group and economy to pay for one it makes no sense and is just an expectation that as players we deserve the toys.

Salvaging Zurara made sense ingame but I wouldn't want to be tied to a static faction with BGS needs or start competing against those factions already in H&S who set up the bases there (even if NPCs) to steal their stations and can't see any benefit for doing so.

No. Plenty of people have contributed as Rifters without visiting the Rift area and many more may have flown those sectors without knowing about the Formidine Rift.
