The Formidine Rift - Part 2

So, I have been listening to the Formidine Rift (you know, the "have you listened to it" clue?). With all my systems turned off, it seems the normal galaxy background noise is different. I think there is morse code in it, but you have to speed it up at least 20 times using software outside of the game to be able to hear it, and depending on how you randomly break and assign the letters you can get different words. I am pretty sure it is telling me the location of Raxxla though. Can anyone confirm? Thanks. :p

You have any audio recordings you can share?

So we have a few obvious candidates for 'Core':

- Sol
- Sag A
- Heart (Nebula)
- Kore (Persephone)

Please add more, I just want an overview.:)

- The seven Old Worlds (that includes Reorte and Riedquat :D)

I'm sailing here, in vain i think. Because to find "it" one of the conditions are not met.
I am nobody. And you need to be somebody.

"Whether it is found or not depends entirely on who goes looking"

and i fear that is my "core of the problem".

"Let's just say there was some serious sh** out there, stuff you wouldn't believe. No really - no one believed me, said it was all a fabrication. I had no proof you see and they edited my memory afterwards. Ah, it'll all come back to bite them one day, it's all there in the imperial databanks somewhere - and they thought the Thargoids were trouble ..."

Watch your six

I think this is a metaphorical nod towards something we as humans have done in our past, Just as the two headed Roman god Janus who's one face points forwards to the future and the other looks backwards to the past. Are we going to discover the place where we dumped the rogue sentient AI?

I think it is best if people try to listen to it with their own recordings, of at least 5 hours in length (to see if the message repeats). Just to avoid relying on my poor audio/video skillz, and to make sure it is not an April Fool's joke or something. You never know.

Weird I hear this:

-... ..- -.-- / -- --- .-. . / --- ...- .- .-.. - .. -. .

Is that before or after the ROT-13 and Vignere cipher?

You know for such a bunch of tinfoilers, I'm surprised no-one has tinfoiled my tune yet..

Personally, I'm no good at this whole thing, it's just taken me 10 minutes to translate Clavain's "Polaris needs biscuits" message... At least banana was easy :D

Maybe another tinfoil moment, or complete brain fart:

Ahem is "used to represent the noise made when clearing the throat, typically to attract attention or express disapproval or embarrassment."

So, what if the 'ahem' is meant to invert the meaning of Drew's comments? (and yes, English is a foreign language to me, so I might miss the nuances of how ahem is used correctly)

  • its not the core to look at, but the opposite direction aka look at the core and then watch your six? So more outward

  • is in there - where, the post this comment refers to?
.
meh, maybe I - ahem - should stop thinking about the rift ...

The "ahem" here is used in the "attract attention" sense. It means, "this next bit has an intentional double meaning". It's like how in a Bug Bunny cartoon if one character is trying to be sneaky, he will be over-the-top about it and be obviously and exaggeratedly sneaky.

Yeah, thought so but was wondering if. (and 3 days with little to no sleep don't help). ok, one tinfoil thought off the list.

It could be a navigational marker, that you have to keep visible between the two nebulae or something?

Just noticed something interesting. I'm around the rift, and can see the soul nebula clearly (about 5400ly away), but the heart nebula, slightly closer to me is completely invisible. I'm not sure where this happened, or how far out I was when it disappeared, but I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye out for it again....

Edit: originally quoted the wrong post.

If the problem is: 'Goo Luck, and... Right On, Commander' then the core of the problem is '...' and as Drew is a 'character' wrighter, I would have to say it's 'S'. ;-)

HOLY SCHMOLY... I've Found IT!!!!

APRILS FOOLS!!!! [haha][haha][haha].... had to be done, feel free to shoot me..:p

Folks,

I'll be having a chat with Ed Lewis re the rift, the 'Rifters', the potential expedition and Salomé's involvement with the current DW expedition with a view to getting a little more profile for everything you been doing here in this thread. Stay tuned for details.

Cheers,

Drew.

Cool, thanks Drew.

One request though. If it's the case that there's a thing out there *and* it's the case that the book, your other writings, galnet, in game clues, in game actions etc are sufficient to find it then I'd vote for no hints. If on the other hand the only way to find it is through brute force 1000 CMDRs painfully scanning 100,000 systems then I'd be very much up for 'obscure' hints.

So far I'm still having fun reading, re-reading, pondering and otherwise randomly poking at things.
