The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Can someone tell me what do you guys expect to find at the rift?

I mean what is the occasion leading u there?

Hi zzehirbazz;

Elite: Dangerous is a game with a lot of back history and lore that many players are unaware of. The original Elite, published in 1984, came packaged with it's own novella. In keeping with that tradition Elite Dangerous was released alongside a rather large number of published books that are available in both hard copy and ebook formats (some are available in audio book format at Audible and Fantastic Books).

One of these novels, Elite: Reclamation by Drew Wagar, contains hints about something in "The Formidine Rift". The book contains hints as to the Rift's location and Drew Wagar has confirmed that there actually is something in game that the Rift portends toward.

What are we looking for? We really don't know! But Rifterd believe it's out there so we are looking.

I'd really suggest reading Crew's book (and the other great fiction that help breathe life into the galaxy.

given Cambridge is probably a clue, these are the GPS cords, 52° 12' 35" N. West Cambridge, 00° 05' 41" E. for the Observatory.... can these be converted to Gal map Cords ????

More or less.

You could use 52° 12' 35'' as the declination and 23h 54' 19'' as the right ascension. There is a 2MASS catalog star, but I could not find it ingame.

2MASS J23534982+5212430

Note that cambridge observatory is most know for its radio-astronomy catalogs that led to a nobel prize. (3C catalog, eg.).

Also thought there could be more to find out about the Cambridge visit.

Perhaps somebody of you is 'enlightened' by these? I am not - depends on who is looking, maybe [noob]

Region where Cassiopeia A should be present is devoid of noticable features.

An other dud :)

The "enlighted" + 7 veils + salomé makes me think of a young and hot star discarding lots of mass. Like an O class or wolf-rayet (which are very bright stars).

I fear the the supernova remnants such as Tycho and Cas - A are just not there. (though I might still check Tycho)

Use this to convert to Galactic coordinares: https://ned.ipac.caltech.edu/forms/calculator.html

And this to get coordinates: http://www.random-science-tools.com/maths/coordinate-converter.htm

You will have to make up the radius. If you make up two, you can put them in excel and extrapolate as many as you want.

The coordinates will probably not be in the same order as in game. There is a 90deg rotation between Gal Coord and in game. If you follow 0deg Galactic Latitude you will inc. the Z(last) coord in game.

Great pics. Center is very close to The RR-line. Kahina wants the throne. ;-)

Perhaps the Lizard people of Andromeda lives there. They are after all, the imperial roaly line.

It would not surprise me, as there are lots of missing "real-world" stars, and some that are in the wrong places. It may also have been the case that if Cas A was a remnant in 2014, FD assumed it would have completely deteriorated and disappeared by the 3300s (although there likely should have been a blackhole or neutron star or the like). Was worth checking out though.

Hmm, although that just got me thinking of another definition of "core of the problem". Why not the core of a star, which eventually becomes a neutron star or black hole?

Not enlightened.. more confused.. seeing The Knee spelled out in clear white in middle of that second picture.. are you teasing me? :D

Turns out most persons depicted by the fantasy of astrologers have knees :)

Has anyone been making a list of neutron stars in the rift?

The clues pointing to that have felt very promising from here. I've found one at MYOIDEAU UA-F D11-0 on t'map but that took a lot of scrolling around and checking there are definitely not many assuming I'm in the right area.

It even looks like you could get to it in a smaller ship. Going to look for more, it's far safer than me flying at this hour

Here is another interesting tinfoil factoid - the galaxies Maffei 1 and Maffei 2 are also in the Cassiopeia constellation. They are among the closest known galaxies outside of our own Local Group (about 10-12 million LY away). If the thing that is "worse than the Thargoids" is coming from outside the Local Group, this would be a logical possible source, and the Rift perhaps the first point of contact with our galaxy/our Local Group even, and a natural staging area or rendezvous for intergalactic travellers.

Have added it to the POI sheet. Only 2 deg from the RR Line so pretty on target
