The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Back to my previous tin foil post where I suggest the R-R line points not only towards Perseus (blue arrow), it might also point towards Norma (pink arrow) (see image below).
.
The hint doesn't specify the edge of which galactic arm. There are plenty. Where the stars thin out - the Norma Expanse (?) - start heading towards the core? To see the 'whole galaxy just hanging there', one has to be on top / bottom of the galaxy, i.e. its highest / lowest point.

Early analysis of the recovered data indicates that a number of new routes have been scouted, including pathways to Beagle Point, the Core, the Formidine Rift, the Norma Expanse and many other parts of the galaxy. These routes combine in a complex cobweb, paths through the void. Sceptics were quick to put these discoveries in context, however:

Man I hope this doesn't become another Distant Worlds thing, I came out here because I heard there was something out here. That should be more than enough to motivate any true explorer. Most explorers wouldn't even need that much encouragment. Just the realization that beyond the horizon there are worlds of such unimaginable beauty in a galaxy chalked with mystery would be enough to set any explorer's engines towards the stars.

Agree with this. I'll be very disappointed if solving the mystery is as simple as carting a UA 11,000ly and seeing what it points at. Although I am equally curious to know what happens if a UA is dropped in the area of the rift :D

so does this mean we are looking in the wrong place? ...am on my second mission to where we thought the rift was, wondering if i should turn and head back.

I wouldn't be too worried. There was a comment from Drew made toward Erimus' map that indicated his labeling of the Formidine Rift was in the right general area. The hint says to draw a line from Reorte to Riedquat and keep going... which would indicate that we have followed the line in the correct direction. If the hint told us to draw a line from Riedquat to Reorte and keep going then, yeah, that would be toward the Norma arm.

It will not be locked to a specified group. The Children of Raxxla got the ticket this evening by virtue of them being the minor faction that specifically invited Salomé to be their leader. You will still require some patience, but the story unfolds.

Cheers,

Drew.

Nice one Drew! we await with baited breath !

Very glad to hear that. Imagine returning from DW only to realize you had to go all the way back again to look for the rift?

Its obvious!

1) Brookes couldn't be present with Ed on the Stream, but did pop on to give a message. Then a bit later, who turns up? But Salome?

But here is the main clue!

2) Salome said "The answer will be revealed...." ".... soon".

Everyone knows that "soon" is a Brookes trademarked word!

Ipso facto Brookes is Salome!

On the downside, that "soon" means we won't get any more information for at least 6 months :D

Well, Just look at the structure of that comment, ".... soon".
3 stops then space then one stop =>3,1 so we have to wait for EDv3.1!

Mmm, can't insert smilies from my ipad

Hi, Rifters. I'm too far away to contribute to the search, but i've watched the broadcast from DW and heard Salomé's words, so i'll give you my own thoughts about this.

For me it's pretty obvious. Someone somewhere, DW or Rifter, has found Raxxla or a new clue and missed to recognize it. So, we must check our unsold exploration data. I crossed the Rift last September and will do it ASAP. I don't believe it could be Raxxla itself, finishing this quest too early, but it could be a new clue about it.

And we need to find a special place to sell our data. If we sell it in the right place, we could get a new clue. A specific mission, a private message or a new galnet article. Another future Exploration CG, perhaps?.

These were my thoughts about Salomé's broadcast. Sorry for my broken english and good hunting, Rifters. Fly safe!.

And this just highlights a certain frustration I have with the game and storyline. If this were reality all spacers would know the location of the Formidine Rift. It would be taught in Basic Galactic Navigation 101 class, together with other galactic points of interest, before you could even apply to take your pilots test.
Just blowing off some steam!

The galnet news says distant world have open the route of The Formidine Rift, that must mean it is not where we are looking because they have not been there.

They started at Pallaeni,
so maybe it is between Pallaeni - Shapely 1

while Drew once confirmed Erimus was right so there is a slight change and I believe we will not find The Formidine Rift before 2.1 because it is in that update
It is also a bit strange because while Distant World was a great event it was a route they did make for the second time because a lonely cmdr had already done this journey,
so data of importance about The formidine rift was already turned in by him (but then by the wrong faction)
and the stream let us believe that it is important were Ed will turn in his data while he travelled with around 450 cmdr's that have this data to and some will be earlier back then him.

So while Drew say it is not faction locked it is because you must turn the data in on the right place to unlock the next event,

That makes for the first direct in-game reference to the Formidine Rift, doesn't it?

If the start of the pathway to the Rift has been scouted in the DWE (as per the Galnet post), surely that rules out the gap between the Perseus and Outer arms - and could be the meaning of the watch your six clue? A line extends both ways in space - a vector is directional.

the live stream talked about selling the expedition data from the DWE. i have weeks of data and headed back to the bubble from SAG A. its not from that side of the galaxy but think it would help selling it to the right people toward the mystery?

Taking that a tad literally, and keeping in mind that Salime is an Imperial.... Perhaps the "right" people are the Imperials - seeing as they also occupy the "right" side of the bubble (generally speaking) when we see Sol as "South", and Beagle Point as "North".

This would kinda makes sense with Drew's post about the "core of the problem". And he didnt say that Erimus was 100% accurate.

There is also a gap between arms there, and it is easily dealt with by a Cobra.

I had on my way home something strange 5000LY from sol,

I was already in jump and a ship wreck poi turned up when i jumped back I could not find it any more.

Not necessarily, if the rift is a name used by a private group. By the same token, we are all presumably looking for a system that a specific group call Raxxla, but the rest of humanity probably know the system as being called Flip flop flobba bob dib dob 324234-345345 A23
