Yes but the opposite end of the R/R line doesn't point in the direction of the Distant Worlds Expedition either.

The actual phrase from Galnet is:

Early analysis of the recovered data indicates that a number of new routes have been scouted, including pathways to Beagle Point, the Core, the Formidine Rift, the Norma Expanse and many other parts of the galaxy.

Something to remember about Distant Worlds is the plan all along was for the "fleet" to break up after reaching Beagle Point. Various commanders are planning to return home following different pathways ... some of these pathways will take them through the core, through the Norma Expanse or even the Formidine Rift. Therefore the statement from Salomé might not indicate that DWE has been to the Rift. This could simply be an indicator that a new pathway, from Beagle to the Rift, has been scouted out.

Given that Salomé is quoted directly in the article my assumption is that this information comes directly from Drew himself ... or at least indicates a direct quote from Salomé in the Live Stream (which I have yet to have the opportunity to watch). It will be interesting to see further clarification in Galnet News in the days ahead.

What if the R-R line is false? We know that the old lady's memory was altered. What if the R-R line was "planted" deliberately, because they knew people will look for the rift?

This works well with the most recent information we got.

Hi Drew!

Its not looking good so far, as it would appear we are searching in the wrong place?

After all, the DWE left from Pallaeni which is nowhere near here. You have said beforehand that we are in the right general place, yet Galnet now tells us that we are not???

I'd be very surprised if we had the area wrong. The little hints we had until now are quite clear with the line. If that was to be wrong, then that old lady has played with us from the start. I very seriously doubt we hit the wrong area...

I do think Salomé went out there with a purpose though, but that might very well be Raxxla or something else, related or not. I'd love to know if she disappeared at some point during the expedition, and if she did, where did that happen and where she rejoined.

On the other hand, what if the RR-Line is right? I mean, perfectly Right On the line. This narrows the search considerably.

First of all, the Y coordinate is exact. Only systems between 48 and 49 would fit the bill. Even though the calculated X and Z may have small deviations because of decimal accuracy, it is probably not more than 25ly furthest out on the line.

I tested a bit yesterday in the Galmap. There are not that many systems in and just across the Rift that fits, but there are some. Mapping those 'Right on the line' systems, could be a good place to start. The RR-Line is after all, all we got.

An example of a system in an interesting spot is: HYPO AEB MI-B D13-7. It is on the line and just across the rift, where the star density start to increase again (You may meet Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones there :D).

It's quite easy to follow the RR-Line in the Galmap. Just go to a known system far out, move to Y=48 and move towards your ship markers in the core (I still have my free Viper MKIV in Barnards star). Verify position every 1000 X coord.

I agree. There is a long period from Kahina went missing on Achenar to Salome showed up on DW. She would have had ample time to visit the secrets of the Rift. At least if she actually got the coordinates from the old lady.

Of course she went out with a purpose. What was it? I'll present my theory:

Senator Kahina Tijani Loren is ... a novice as far as piloting spacecraft and exploring the galaxy goes. She may have natural skills but at the end of Elite: Reclamation these skills are far from fully realized. Based on the updated timeline provided by Drew earlier in this thread Kahina's trip to Sol last year occurred prior to Reclamation's Epilogue. That would probably be her first trip as Commander of her own ship. Sometime after that Lady Kahina was recalled to Achenar. It may have been here that the events recorded in the Epilogue took place.

Deploying with the Distant Worlds fleet was the perfect way for Salomé, a novice pilot, to gain knowledge of basic and advanced principles for navigating the galaxy as an explorer ... skills she'll need for the task ahead of her. This may have been her "test run" prior to engaging in her true quest.

I think you have to allow for a bit of artistic licence here. The distant world expedition as envisioned in terms of 'The Lore' might well have entailed multiple locations and routes (as the Galnet article implies); even if the player version was a beeline to Beagle point.

Plus according to the Children of Raxxla novella she may have teamed up with Luko, a seasoned pilot. Assuming anything in the novella can is relevant to the plot.

Sorry but am i missing something ??? If DWE found a route though the rift, which is in the opposite direction then we are being fed
contradictory information ???? And if that is flawed then nothing can be taken as fact, The Erimus map (Front page of the thread BTW)
covers an area that CANNOT be covered in any sensible way, without a grid reference clue then all we are doing is waiting on blind luck ?

Or i am not in the mood for this kind of mind bending and should get on and some some actual RL work :)

I'm rather confused myself, but I think it's Drew's comment at the the top of this page that is important for the time being.

I just want to point out that the constellation opposed to cassiopeia/RR line is the Crux, which has the nice property of being the smallest one.

The crux has some interesting objects : the coalsack, and the jewel box cluster. I wonder if those would count as discarded items in the 7 veils.

In any case, my ship might have a fatal accident with a neutron star XD
