The Formidine Rift - Part 2

I only play solo. Being autistic, I don't make friends very well, so the forums is my only way of communicating in game.
My limit in communication is doing barrel rolls after saving folk's butts as I boost past and away, think you'll find a lot if space farers appreciate the lighter touch in conversation

Isn't there a line somewhere in the dialogue with kahina talking about following the line to the rift and then going high above the plane of the galaxy? I'll look for the dialogue but it is stuck in my mind for some reason.

I am reading the book now, only mention of the rift so far is from the old woman.
The line from the book reads: Edge of the galactic arm. Take a line from Reorte to Riedquat to the edge of the arm and … keep going.’ The woman grimaced. ‘Stars thin out, you can see the whole galaxy just hanging there

But all this is documented in the OP

Thanks :). I imagined I would have to rise above the plane of the galaxy to see it hanging there. I Gotta be careful not to read things that aren't there.

Ok.

Toned it down a little.

Feel better?

No mate. Use the other one. It was like you recorded rift madness:)

Well. Another commander touched on this a few weeks back. Maby you are on to something. Sorry I don't know who it was but he said that "hanging" reminded him of something hanging over the edge...so maby lower than the plain. But the way I would see that is that something hanging would be "up". To this I did start sporadicly heading up and down. All angles are valid :)

I feel, especially in light of Drew's comment's on the map, that the RR line is just pointing us at the rift. Even to go as far as to tell us what quadrant it's in. Ofc it's just my interpretation.......we need more clues :)

So, what if we should shy away from obvious objects in the direction the RR-line points at, ignore major constellations, obvious nebulas, ... what is left to look at?
.
On my map on page 107, and we know the RR-line is in one plane (~129deg; constant Y=48.75), instead of putting in triangle shaped slice on the map, which increase the area to search the further it goes out, why not put a cylinder (+/- 100-250 ly diameter) in along the extended RR-line and see what along/within this space can be found? (and please excuse if this has been suggested before).

I'd rather avoid a brute force approach, but at this point it seems the hints we have don't cut it :(

On the live stream, did we miss something salome said because eds pc crashed?

Dr kaii says "Salome has said something" but Ed was logging back in. Then nothing was mentioned. Hummmmm...

Yeah, I'd forgotten about that, but I do remember Dr Kaii saying something about it.

Don't think I've seen it here so here's the text of Ed's chat with Salome and her message to C.o.R.

Chat between Salome and Ed Lewis at Beagle Point

Salome: Hello CMDR Lewis.
Ed: Greetings
Salome: We welcome you to Beagle Point, CMDR. I trust the Empire find you well?
Ed: Yeah... fine :)
Salome: That is gratifying. I have brought the Children of Raxxla to visit you.

[following Ed not realizing he is misdirecting his chat]

Ed > Ulysses Wolf: I loved your flyby
Salome: We are searching the void for the mystery of Raxxla, the secrets of the Rift and ... whatever else we might find.
Ed > Ulysses Wolf: People want to know about the Rift
Salome: All is not well in the core worlds. Thus I must soon return. But keep that exploration data safe... it is far more important than you know...
Ulysses Wolf > Ed: change to LOCAL.
Ed: Wow.
Ed: Okay, cool... so like, don't sell it?
Salome: Be careful who you sell it to.
Ed. Okay. Thank you Salome.
Salome: I must depart now, be safe in the void... and good luck. You will need it.
Ed: Thanks? Why?
Ed: Will I need luck.
Salome: The answer will come,,,
Salome: ...soon.

Salome's message to the Children of Raxxla

Sanctuary Hill, Beagle Point

Commanders, I am gratified to see so many of you have survived the voyage here.

My heart goes out to those who lost their lives along the way.

Remember them with me.

We are tens of thousands of lightyears from your homes in the core worlds.

What you have achieved is nothing short of breath-taking.

The first mass expedition to the far side of the galaxy.

Reflect on that for a moment.

You have proved yourselves true explorers, true adventurers.

You have survived many perils along the way; neutron star, black holes...
Damage, high gee worlds, double stars... and the haunted emptiness
of the void.

I can assure you that the exploration data to have amassed will be invaluable
in the future.

Guard it carefully.

It may be more important than you know.

Six months ago the Children of Raxxla began an undertaking that has bee tried
many time before.

Raxxla itself has eluded everyone for nearly five hundred years.
I have found that it was first mentioned in the year 2814.

Since then, many have set out to identify it, locate it and even exploit it...

Those who went before you failed, lost in the darkness and now long forgotten
by all but historians and lore masters.

Yet, the legend remains.

We have better technology than they did. We can push further and faster.
We have proved we can traverse the galaxy.

Thus I firmly believe the mysteries of the galaxy will be revealed to us.

Raxxla, the Rift, and the strange permit locked sectors of the galaxy.

We will uncover the truths that have been concealed by powers
both seen and unseen.

We are the vanguard of that search, to us it falls to keep looking when
others give up.

To keep pushing the veil of the galaxy aside, to find out what lies
beyond the darkness.

Now i must return home, I fear that danger threatens the fragile
peace we left behind.

Shadowy forces are at work in the core worlds.

You must make the journey too, a voyage as daunting as the one we have
already undertaken.

So when the loneliness stalks you, when the isolation gnaws at your mind...

When fear is your only companion, when the sheer scale of the galaxy
crushed in upon you...

Then look up... Look up and say to yourself:
"I have loved the starts too dearly to be fearful of the night."

Find your resolve, Commanders, for you are the true "Children of Raxxla."

I wish you a safe voyage home, but for now...

Remember!

My dear Rifters.

I would like to point out something here that has been the subject of many discussions in game.

The general consensus is that it is worth chasing up.

And, alas... You are not going to like this. You see, the new galactic arm doesn't end in line with the H&S Nebula...It carries on dark until about here... until it lightens up again briefly.

And that my friends, is quite a large rift.

My advice? EXPLORE! The RR line and all surrounding systems are being pulled apart right now. Drew has stated that we are only in the "General" area. In fact, he makes it sound like we have just touched on it.

But PLEASE! bear in mind - unless you want to backtrack to the Formidine Bridge, use an Anaconda with a long jump range. It is possible to cross the Short "Gap" between arms in an Asp, but it is an extremely difficult navigation hazard. There is also a "Vertical gap" of almost NO stars about 60ly deep in the centre of the Gap, with few and far between bridges across it. Invariably, you will need to dip up to find better stars to cross, or dip below. You have been warned.

Im only saying, that it is better not to put all our eggs in one basket here. There is plenty of unexplored turf out in the dark areas of the new Galactic arm too for brave souls to discover.

Id also like to point out that if you stick to the "Dark" area of the new Galactic arm (Or imagined continuation of it) Navigation is quite easy.

I've been to that easternmost part. Then to the vicinity where the coordinates are double the values of the coordinates of the Heart Nebula black hole. Then went all the way down west, used some FSD boosts to reach some unreachable stars under the galactic plane, and went close to rho cassiopeiae (which is unreachable as it requires a ship with at least 84LYJ). I just realize (at least for myself) I don't choose luck (for lack of substantial clues); it's luck that chooses the commander. I don't mind a very difficult puzzle, but a puzzle that requires brute force search (no matter how distributed it is) is not awesome. So until there is a definitive information that when solved leads to one or just a few coordinates to look for, I'll retire with the search for now, and I feel that's the most prudent decision.

Don't forget Hassan is travelling with her also !

Of course she went out with a purpose. What was it? I'll present my theory:

Senator Kahina Tijani Loren is ... a novice as far as piloting spacecraft and exploring the galaxy goes. She may have natural skills but at the end of Elite: Reclamation these skills are far from fully realized. Based on the updated timeline provided by Drew earlier in this thread Kahina's trip to Sol last year occurred prior to Reclamation's Epilogue. That would probably be her first trip as Commander of her own ship. Sometime after that Lady Kahina was recalled to Achenar. It may have been here that the events recorded in the Epilogue took place.

Deploying with the Distant Worlds fleet was the perfect way for Salomé, a novice pilot, to gain knowledge of basic and advanced principles for navigating the galaxy as an explorer ... skills she'll need for the task ahead of her. This may have been her "test run" prior to engaging in her true quest.

Went to bed last night a bit depressed... thinking I was 14kylies on the WRONG side of Sol.

Read the latest in here and I am a happy CMDR once more. I will continue searching.

NO ANOMALY DETECTED .... so far.

Well, I discarded that thought a week ago, but here you go. Pink zone is where the rift might be based on Erimus map. Green circle is the 1st island after the gap, and the at the galactic edge. Blue circle towards the arms end and there is a large void. Opposite Beagles point.

First apologize for the crappy drawing threw it together very fast. Second everything past the orange line, green arrow side should be the area of focus..
