The Formidine Rift - Part 2

Not a clue! Its and Easter egg thrown in by Drew to see if we are paying attention.

Well, if being aware of an "eb, p" in-joke (is that a thing, and if so, to whom?) and constantly on the lookout for letters buried in articles that could be shifted forwards or backwards by X number of spaces, or not, is defined as "paying attention", then I guess I wasn't paying attention!

Solving this mystery is likely going to require an ability to 'read between the lines' a decipher hidden meanings from Galnet. Don't be worried if the puzzles appear 'too hard'. I'll be relying on folks like Genar-Hofoen to get me through this without losing my mind!

Good luck to Genar-Hofoen, then! If any part of anything could be in code, or not, and that code could also be pretty much anything, then that's me out, frankly. If there's no indication that we need to look at X and perform Y… Well, good luck to Genar-Hofoen!

Hi All, new to the Formidine mystery and wanted to get involved.

Am currently sitting at Beagle Point after a long trip and a thought occurred to me, Salome came to BP for data with the DW expedition. Does that mean there is something here to find that might connect with the Rfit?

Has any current Rifters on the search been to BP? maybe this is what the hint from Drew was when he said 'its the who goes looking and not what (which has been confirmed as not a Rank requirement). maybe you need to have visited BP and Sag A for example?

I am going to spend a while pottering around the BP system (CEECKIA ZQ-L C24-0) to see if anything is out here USS or Beacon etc. Don't think it would be on the surface as said the Horizens is not required for Rfit mystery.

Also I will have a load of data to turn in on my return, has anyone spoken to Salome ref where to sell it?

Hi and welcome!

First things first. Here, there's a lot of tinfoil-injected brainstorming. Beware. If you prefer lighter and live chat, FleetComm's here for ya.

I have been to BP, and I'm in the Rift right now.

We don't know if Salomé meant that we need to sell at a particular place, nor what this place would be, nor the way it would matter.

I'd say don't waste your time looking for things around BP.

Basically, we don't have much more than the clues that have been known for a long time :D

A short answer will suffice. Just downloaded some books for my Kindle. I think I have the right ones to help fill in the blanks for this mystery, but I would be very grateful if someone could confirm.

  • Lave Revolution
  • Out of the Darkness
  • Reclamation
  • And here the Wheel.

Is my list complete?

Cheers

We are to report any unusual traffic activity coming across the Rift, unidentified signals, or other events, immediately and directly to CoR Command should we detect them.

One more thought for the night. What with all the arguing that ensued, seems to me that folk here missed a clue in Erimus's message from Salomé. The above could be telling us what we are looking for is in a USS?

I know that 'Mostly Harmless' makes a side mention about Kahina and trouble in the Prism system. Can't say that it contains anything beyond that however.

I'd like to point out that it was I who spotted the fact that the sentence "These routes combine in a complex cobweb, paths through the void." was odd-looking, which then sparked some conversation and then Belthize spotted the easter egg.

That line rang out as unusual to me too but I didn't make the connection. Nice work :)

I asked Drew on Discord, he said 'You can look for anything you like.' :D

I'd vote with "no". At least I hope so. I guess USSs will come with whatever the reason will be for flying armed ships into deep space. I hope the "It" will be something more persistent. I mean I hope whatever is hidden there can easily be recognised upon honking in the system. Some weird stellar body or a derelict station or a simple nav beacon like those we see in the bubble.
It might be wise to carry cargo scanners with us just in case those medical convoys reappear...

My honest opinion is that the whole CoR deployment along the Rift is just story telling. I don't think much will come from it ... aside from mapping some systems where we can get some quality Jumponium. This, I think, was a bone thrown to us by Drew to let us know that we shouldn't lose heart. We were all expecting a Galnet article that didn't happen. Here we are a week later and ... still nothing on Galnet. Why?

Simple: Frontier doesn't want 'The Rift' to overshadow the beta release of 2.1 Engineers. Salome's latest message indicates a prolonged deployment ... four weeks. Enough time for 2.1 to exit beta and go to full release. I strongly believe that Salome's story will continue once 2.1 has been released and Frontier can focus on the community instead of focusing on the Beta. Right now the community management team is full-on busy promoting 2.1 right now. This also gives more time for the Distant World's crowd to make it back home so that they can be involved as well.

Of course ... if I do see a USS in the Rift, I'm diving in!

Yes. Yes she is. I'd give you the coordinates but I'd hate to spoil it for you.

Almost all the books from the old games are free to download. I think all are here: http://www.dream-ware.co.uk/

Agreed. And some pretty fine storytelling it is too. Certainly piqued my interest !

I think someone else mentioned this before - but this whole thing is pretty unique and special - to be part of a living, breathing storyline. For want of a better description, a 'live sequel' to a book, set in the universe we play in. I don't think I've ever been this engaged with a story before.

So ... I was just listening to Reclamation on Audible before heading to sleep. Just realized that when the old lady says "Right on, Commander" it is the second time we hear her telling Salome 'right on'. The first time she leaves off the 'Commander' because, well, she isn't one (yet).

From the hospital scene:

‘Right on,’ the woman whispered, her eyes closing. ‘Quite a saga it was. Life on the Frontier; not easy, but one hell of a ride. Elite combateers, we always … always made a difference …’

Elite Dangerous, because of the way it has been programmed, creates a huge opportunity for story tellers. The Formidine Rift and it's ability to draw the community into working together to solve the mystery is an excellent example. Why they don't just hire Drew flat-out (and other authors) to build content interact with the community is beyond me. The Rift and whatever is 'out there' is the most engaging thing I've found in Elite thus far.
