The freagle!

Yeah I tried a viper in 3.05 and found I preferred my little eagle.
It's not the fastest but it ducks and dives out of most trouble....out turns everything
The only thing to watch is you don't take too much incoming fire.
.
Love it....best ship I have piloted so far

Love the Eagle. The cargo needs to be at least 4 tonne. As it stands now I can only use it for bounty hunting, once I earn enough for a warrant scanner.

Check your stats on that. It has been a while since I upgraded a power distributor but I am positive the wepons draw slightly less power and they definitely cool faster.

I spend most of beta 2.5 onwards in an Eagle and loved it. I finally sold it for a Viper to see what all the fuss was about and whilst the Viper is faster I got the feeling that if I ever gut a skilled Eagle pilot attach himself to my tail I would be in trouble.

Power Distributors only provide a faster recharge and a greater capacity for each PIP bucket. I believe I have an A1 in my Eagle which is both lighter in mass and much better then stock in terms of power capacity (especially noticeable on boost recharge).

Eagles are good ships these days - cheap to outfit, great to fly, my only gripes are the speed and there's not enough space to fit the full range of exploring gear you need.

No enough items to be an effective bounty hunter. For example you can fit a FSD interdicter and a K-Warrant Scanner OR a FSD Wake Scanner - not both.

Still, hell of a fun ship.

Nice.

To be honest, i'm avoid combat, but there again, my commander is a coward, who will always choose flight over fight. Maybe after launch i will keep different profiles, once combat oriented, the other combat averse.

Well you see, that is also where the eagle is good. Longer jump ranges than the Sidewinder and faster in normal space, and great turn rate. If doing some exploring (~20-40k per hour) the eagle is definitely useful for avoiding combat.

My biggest issue with the Viper is that, with just the standard thrusters, it's pretty unmaneuverable compared to both the Eagle and Cobra, making it pretty clumsy at close range. But, I must admit, once it's loaded with B-grade parts it turns into a total beast of a fighter!

I haven't hopped into my Freagle yet (too busy giggling at the universe), but I'm going to in the next day or two. How's the insurance situation on it? If/when I lose it, do I get another one for free, or is it priced like a purchased Eagle?

The insurance costs for the stock eagle are below 2000cr (can't remember the exact value) so it's realy nothing to worry about.

After a few days in a Sidewinder I eventually found my Freagle today. I dumped the discovery scanner and put a fuel scoop in, left the weapons alone. So I went out to find some bad guys. Missed the first one in SC somewhere, then some NPC decided to interdict me... So I let them!

I forget what I was shooting at, but after some time (and with two security ships helping) I managed to get the final few shots with my trusty pulse lasers and bagged myself a 11k bounty, kerching! That was also my first (non-tutorial) kill in ED too! I had lots of fun. So I think adding a gimbled cannon is next.

All-in-all, makes a nice change from running courier/trade missions in the Sidey!

I wish the stock lasers were both mounted under the wings. The default layout makes it a bit harder to get the lasers to converge together.

That was actually the first thing I did, just because I thought "That doesn't look symmetrical" :D
You know that you can change the hardpoint where they are mounted in the outfittings?

Pimped sidey is way better than the eagle, also pimped

I had them pimped at around same level and was getting obliterated inthe eagle

I take on cobras with the sidey easy

I got the feeling that if I ever gut a skilled Eagle pilot attach himself to my tail I would be in trouble.

Even the most skilled Eagle pilot isn't going to be attached for long. The ship is just too slow. It's also underarmed and fragile compared to the larger fighters/combat craft.

No enough items to be an effective bounty hunter. For example you can fit a FSD interdicter and a K-Warrant Scanner OR a FSD Wake Scanner - not both.

I can make respectable money without any of these things...it's more a quantity over quality type thing.

Really? Hmmm, I naturally jumped into an Eagle even before we had a free one, never played around with an upgraded sidey. I'll try it out ty. Hope we get some fancy maneuverable small stuff in the future, I like the small ships just not enough dakka :(

Eagles certainly seem to be good dog fighters. I've often thought that when the are in the process of making me eat vacuum.

Mind you, I have a rare ability to magnify the combat skills of even the worst pirate/bounty hunter/void-sucking scumhound. It's a talent....

I put three gimbaled multi-cannons on mine and it shreds EVERYTHING. Its so maneuverable that once you get in close almost nothing can get away.

Sidewinders and Eagles will die in about 10 sec of sustained fire, I killed an asp the other night in just under a min with no help from security forces. Multi-cannons at close range are bonkers good, add that to a ship with superior maneuverability and its good times, well for you anyway, life is gonna suck for everyone else. ;-)

I no longer fear being interdicted, dangerous, master, elite......they all die to the multi-cannon freagle! DAKKA DAKKA DAKKA!

Until someone comes along with chaff ;)

Chaff really isn't much of an issue, the few times it was dropped it didn't last long enuf to help and it's limited in ammo. Looks awesome when it goes off though. Missile boats on the other hand would be a problem since I don't have the power or space to mount any kind of anti-missile defense.

I have been toying around with the idea of a heavy hitting eagle with a few rail guns/beam lasers and a torpedo launcher for large targets but I have never tried playing with the torpedo, also not sure if you could get all three to fit even with a upgraded power plant.
