The FSS is like a lingering fart left in an elevator when you have 46 floors to go, you tolerate it to get to your destination but by heck it stinks.

Yup. Most of those aren't core so they could do them. Using while on the move is probably easy to implement but most likely virtually impossible to use unless they do massive changes to how it works, which I don't think will happen.

Personally I'd be fine not using it on the move if I could view the spectrum without having to stop and open the FSS. Hopefully that's something they can do easily, as I'm not expecting any significant rework of the FSS until after the 'new era'.

But that elevator fart is so much fun for the one who let it out, especially if they got off on the 2nd floor.

I embraced the FSS during the beta. It is infinitely more fun than the old way, which was so bad I simply refused to engage in Exploration, which was one of the two things that drew me to Elite in the first place. The other was the potential to play "space pirate", but it took me all of about 10 minutes to figure out this was not at all what I anticipated, so I abandoned that concept rather quickly.

I gave a little shot at playing Explorer, but after the first 4 or 5 systems of honk, fly, point my ship, wait for result, I found it completely intolerable. There was literally nothing to actually do except watch the background barely change. Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, Elite entered its Beige Period, and that made an already intolerably dull and tedious system even worse. I switched paths, and occupied myself with Accumulation. Now here I am, close to 10 billion in cash and assets, a fleet of 71 fully engineered ships, deep in the void, enjoying the new mechanics that actually give me something to do other than watch Netflix as I fly through space.

Excuse me, this is my floor.

Not sure why they get so wound up about it - it's not like it's a big issue like the Dolphin overheating when manoeuvring near planets - I could understand them getting irate about that ...

I'm not sure how people manage to do this with the Dolphin. I think it happened to me once, when I was learning to use it.

You would think that would be what analysis mode is for. It certainly would make more sense having the spectrum analysis in analysis mode. It would give analysis mode some kind of reason for being there too.

Yeah, actually making Analysis Mode a different HUD layout, rather than simply being a different color, with a semi-permanent overlay of "Wrong mode ya eejit", would have been a logical design decision.

But no, because FDev.

''if it hadn't been designed and built as a fait-accomplait, and ooh, I don't know, maybe the promised focused-feedback forum on exploration had actually been held?''
Yeah quite right! A fair few ''proposed'' things around that time failed to materialise and have never been mentioned again!!! Of course things do fall by the wayside in RL but it would be nice if there was some communication as to ''reasons & rationale'' for their demise. o7

Something like that would be picked up in a focused feedback phase more than a stress test.

I've never heard the fss described as well as the title, but if you're flipping the page to emotional response / NPS yep its very accurate.
