The galactic map and Oculus

Recently usage of Oculus with the galactic map has left me frustrated in it's use.

Navigation to a star is a virtual nightmare. How is done; is there a guide, a thread or is this a work in progress and we'll have to cope until FD do the magic.

How do use it in the most particle way possible; as an explorer... I can't see it useable.

Thank you.

Right, I decided to change some key binding as the a; d; w; s operated the direction of map and conflicted with the way the ui panel operated which I found most difficult.
I now use the arrow key bindings to operate the map direction. This leaves the general ui keys unaffected throughout, without affecting usage. I found this functional and can use, navigate the galactic map with ease and without frustration.
.
Maybe it's just me...

Having played Elite only with the Oculus, I also found the Galaxy Map quiet difficult to navigate at first. Using your preferred method of input to align the system you want to select right under your "crosshair" makes it doable to bring up the context menu and navigate it with your UI left/right buttons. Two things I still have a gripe with:

-the mouse cursor seems to be depending on where you look at with the Oculus. Having the context menu pop up and moving your head slightly to look at the different buttons will often lead to the menu dissappearing again.

-the white text in the left hand navigation menu is very hard to read. I have given up on using the Galaxy Map to gather informations about the systems for now. I've only been playing for around 5 days now, and from what I get pre 1.1. the Galaxy Map was tied to the GUI-coloring, so it seemed to be possible to make the text green, just like I have my HUD, but it also seemed to have messed up the general color coding in the Galaxy map. To be frank I'd rather be able to use the navigation menu better and ditch the color coding, since I can barely read what the color coding stands for. Maybe an option to choose between pre and post 1.1. colors in the galaxy map would help?

Agreed its pretty brutal not only that but finally laid in a long distance course to where I wanted to go then UPDATE happens and everything gone now it does not seem to function the same. Anybody else notice that?

Another idea would be to be able to assign an axis or buttons to zoom in on the navigation menu. Trying to do this manually mostly results in me colliding with different object around me, so this could also help immensly. You either have to be able to make the font bigger or get it to green like, for example, the Station Menu, as that one is easily readable at the moment.

Generally I use the mouse to adjust or offset the horizontal grid giving me an angle above it and alter the elevation depending on whether I want up or down the z axis. Mouse wheel for zoom. Using the blue circle I can easily select a destination now (arrow keys), and especially as can now tell where the caps lock by feel I can find the ui controls easily to make my selection. If it makes sense. I only have to lift my oculus to make sure she hasn't eaten more of my Parma Violets. But I enjoy the galactic map now.

It's like Star Trek, Picard and data in that observatory... forget which one, but looking down and all around... it rocks.
.
As for colours... greyish, work in pro and they don't affect much.
<MatrixRed> 0.75, 0.75, 0.75 </MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0.51, 0.75, 1 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.51, 0.75, 1 </MatrixBlue>

Starting to get the hang of the map you have to pay close attention to the depth and pick systems that continually lower you down to where you want to go. Ran out of fuel a few times which will quickly make you wiser to planning your routes. If out of fuel drive straight into the nearest sun pretty cool smoke effects
