OK ... so basically I had 500 of the things made in RL for Lavecon 2016
On one side the Buckyball logo and catchphrase we use from time to time - "Win It Or Bin It" - which basically translates as no half measures, push your ship and your piloting skills to the limit, and if you explode and die, so be it. On the other side the Fuel Rats logo (I was an active Fuel Rat at the time) and the caption "Celebrating 10000 rescues" (a landmark moment which more or less coincided with that Lavecon).
Not long after that (and much to my personal surprise at the time) they appeared in-game as a rare commodity at a new home station for the Buckyball Racing Club, "Rebuy Prospect" in the Fullerene C60 system. The station name was a Frontier prize for Cmdr Alot (the legendary Sagittarius A* record breaker), while the system name and rare good were charity auction prizes for Cmdr furrycat (another of the racing club's founding members). I believe there was some negotiation with Frontier to have all three prizes combined into a home system for the club.
There was also supposed to be a description for the Fullerene C60 system which was never made visible in the game (although the text did make it into the data files if you look hard enough!).
Home to the Buckyball Racing Club, formed in 3301 by a group of participants in the Buckyball Run series of races, after it was announced that the original organiser of the Buckyball Run was taking an indefinite break from doing so. The aim of the club is to continue to organise and race in Buckyball-style challenges.
The Buckybot Bar at Rebuy Prospect is fully licensed, unlike our races, and we have a wide selection of beer mats, badges and stuffed bears in our gift shop.
Slightly unrelated to the rare commodity, but several years later I also won Frontier's "Design A Holo-Screen Advert" competition and created the following:
We don't yet have a decal! ... but perhaps at this stage that's just being greedy?
