The game does have a pause button

I discovered that accidentally. I hyperjumped, set zero throttle, then alttabbed out for something else. I expected to drop back in the target system while the game was out of focus. However, the jump carries on idefinitely until the game gets focus again. Is repeatable, confirmed. So if you need to take a brake for something, park in witchspace.

I bet all the people crying that there is an ongoing universe that cannot be paused won't notice any inconsistency here :) Good catch!

This definitely isn't true for me. I've lost count of the times I browse here while jumping and it will exit as normal no matter the focus.

I play in borderless.

I alt-tab out of full-screen to browse imageboards while I am Frame-shifting. I can confirm that it does not pause while throttling. I have not attempted zero throttle, though.

Hyperspace is just a glorified loading screen. If whatever you alt tabbed to do slows loading, it slows the jump.

Ok, I was confident enough, had it work numerous times. Yet just now it didn't. Wierd stuff.

I'll never get that +1 back :/

Ok , I may it figured out now, was able to repeat it two times in a row. You need to alttab out while the countdown is running. I can sit there doing nothing, just letting the PC idle, and the jump never finishes until I tab back in.

The game isn't paused. You have simply locked your ship in hyperspace.

[Edit - This sounds like a bug to me, but if it works then I cannot see it does anyone else any harm - although you have to wonder if going into Hyperspace just to make sure you are safe is easier than just logging out of the game. I suppose it avoids logging on into an asteroid field or the path of a station or celestial body]

Save and Quit doesn't pause either - you just log out of the game (it carries on without you).

I think the OP is right. I got locked out of the client when my anti-virus software decided to pop-up an "update required" and couldn't alt-tab back for about 20 seconds. It seemed as though the start time for Hyperspace was reset when I finally got back in. Which fills me with happy joy joy. My two other PCs are SSD based, but I haven't got my main gaming PC moved over to my new 480GB SSD yet. :)

This is how the Thargoids select their first victims, CMDR Numa is obviously a Thargoid spy.

And now poor TriumphANT is surely doomed...

Just to add my tuppence's worth; I play in fullscreen and when alt-tabbed my jump completes regardless of throttle position. The inconsistency in results here is interesting :)

EDIT: I mostly play on a minimum-specification (or thereabouts) laptop, with Elite installed on the hard drive as opposed to boot SSD.

Nope. Even if it would work there would be no inconsistency.
Just think about it for a moment.
It is just a prolonged jump. The universe is simulated as usual and it is not paused.

In what way is the universe paused?

Quite. Even if the jump is prolonged indefinitely for the Cmdr in hyperspace. No one else, nor the game world itself is affected in anyway at all. Not sure why this appears to be such a difficult concept to understand.
