The game is not worth fixing

At this point it's just putting lipstick on a pig.
I haven't played in a long time, no desire to play--I keep checking in to see what has changed, to my disappointment nothing has changed.
Why not just release a new ship or two we can fly around for a bit? That boggles my mind, it would have kept me in the game for a while longer anyway.
sadly your right, mistake they made with what everyone thinks is a lighting problem is big, it is not a lighting problem but rendering and module boundary issue and to fix it they would have to take the whole game apart and redo a lot of it and they wont because maybe they just don't even know how. what they know how to do is how to try to make it look better by playing around with lighting. all those people hoping lighting issues will be eventually fixed are in to a huge disappointment, this issue can't be fixed by update.
so, maybe your right about releasing some new content would cheer people up a little :)

I respectfully disagree. I love this game, really like the new expansion and the patches and additions are making it even better.

Some time ago we used to have these discussions, nee arguments, but the topics were Open v Solo, PvP v PvE or why was SDC allowed to provide "security" for Salome?

Now we talk about frame rates, overheated GPUs or the lack of VR.

I remember one classic challenge to a CMDR, something like "get off the porch and from behind your mama's skirts and fight me!"

Times change...

It's ok to like EDO of course.
But I don't think it improved ED in anyway.
It simply added something on top that is fun for some. I still can't see Odyssey as the natural extension of Horizons... It's probably the lack of ship interiors and missions with objectives for both ships and legs gameplay that could create the natural link that binds the two games together. Also the split mission boards makes no sense at all. It's just a cheap trick to keep Horizons and Odyssey licenses separated.
Few months ago Braben talked about new missions to integrate both ships and legs gameplay together but there's still no sign of that in the patches roadmap so I guess it was just another "wish" and not a real intention.

EDO actually broke the game for me.
The planetary terrain generation is boring. No sign of canyons or erosions that instead we had before. As Mars teaches us, a tenuous atmospheric planet could have had full atmosphere millions of years ago, now destroyed by solar winds, so we should find canyons and erosion on many explorable planets in ED. Moreover scientists keep saying that what's out there in space could be extremely weird and far from our imagination because they keep discovering apparently inexplicable phenomena. Instead ED keeps simply reproducing our solar system in different variations throughout all the galaxy.

Also performance got extremely worse: flying in VR on planets surface is now a power point slideshow.

So I agree with OP when he says that new ships (and new SRV's) would have helped many people to swallow the pill, because if you're not interested in the new "pew pew" there's absolutely nothing new that worth keep playing the game in the current state.

That pretty much would be the definition of putting lipstick on a pig.

How about FD focus on fixing things to make it playable for all those people who struggle due to performance issues first?
This whole why not add a new ship is the most stupid thing I heard tho. Imagine spending 2.5 years purely in development of a completely new aspect of a game.
How is one supposed to in all this stress etc just create another ship?
Yes it would be cool if we had more Faction themed stuff ofc but damn models take time. Doesn't really justify that basically all settlemt interiors are the same but still. Models take time so adding a new ship is minimum 2-4m of development and that would have made odyssey launch even worse.

This is just your opinion which I disagree with.

They have specifically mentioned these in the streams and the development updates.

EDO actually broke the game for me.
That's unfortunate for you.

Whether it's boring or not is down to the individual. There are plenty of canyons and there are many signs of erosion. I suggest not playing with your eyes close as what you are saying is factually not true.

Yup and we have that, sure could be better in places though. But there are many canyons and signed of erosion.

That I don't deny and have never denied, doesn't stop me from really enjoying the game though.

New ships and SRVs would be nice, but not exactly vital for me. I don't miss them, there are already plenty of ships in the game. A few more SRV types would be nice though, but I certainly don't need more.

I'm pretty down on Odyssey, but I have to disagree with the OP. The new planet tech has great potential, and if Frontier is able to fix the performance issues along with lighting (no, it's not fixed yet) and rendering (pop-in, shadow flicker, terrain morphing, etc) issues, then Odyssey would be attractive enough for me to buy on sale. Throw in proper VR support and I might even enjoy some of the on-foot gameplay, just because it would be relatively unique (VR) rather than a poor copy of all the first person shooters that I already own.

I also think "fix" could include more than just removing bugs. For example, giving players a proper "Armstrong Moment" where we can literally exit and enter our ship (do it like X4 with an elevator to the ramp), along with being able to at least walk around our bridge / cockpits, would be a wonderful "fix". Throw in some other nice little things like gestures (hand waves, cheers, etc), the ability to sit at the bar, and all the other cool things that most MMOs provide, and I think Odyssey would indeed be worth fixing. After all, Horizons today is very much more than Horizons when it first released, so I've not given up hope on Odyssey yet. I've just given up hope on it being done before 2022.

Why not just release a new ship or two we can fly around for a bit?

I own 9 ships (including a Sidewinder left in Dromi) and most of them just sit in a hangar.

I like to fly the Cobra everywhere I go. I use the DBX if I want to quickly head somewhere a few hundred ly away and don't want to take the whole fleet along. The Python when I grudingly go for some mining. And the T9 to buy and sell stuphz if I need some more monies (I keep about 300-400 million cash on hand).

Probably not the typical Elite pilot :)
