The Golden Cult - GSNM appreaciation (adoration) thread

How much more ignorant can you a actually get?
Who are you to decide which species are interesting and which are not?
looks like a slightly different proboscis monkey to me.
I literally said “to me” implying that it was my opinion and that’s how I see the animal, I wasn’t speaking for the community.
Maybe you should take a rest from the forums if they frustrate you so much?
I also never said they frustrate me, I said what my thoughts on the animal are.

I don't understand how you don't find both the proboscis monkey or the GSNM interesting since i think they are some of the most unique primates there are compared to other more generic monkeys.

But yeah he stated that as a personal opinion so is nothing to get angry about, even if we disagree.

At least he is no advocating for the Barbary Macaque 😅

I think the proboscis monkey is interesting a ton, but I don’t want the GSNM because it’s very similar to the proboscis, so it’s not interesting to me because it’s very similar to something else already in game.

The thing is, GSN Monkey is the top demanded species of Chinese players while it is conceivable that most non-Chinese players are not interested. Since from the perspective of non-Chinese players, the East Asian primates are already represented by the Japanese Macaque, so no more is needed. GSN Monkey is completely absent in captivity outside of East Asia so the "realistic gangs" definitively refuse it. Why demanded by Chinese players, b/c the GSN Monkey is considered a "national treasure" and one of the icons of Chinese fauna, and fills the gap of Chinese primates (Lar Gibbon has been extirpated in China for about 20 years). The natural habitat of GSN Monkey overlaps a lot with the Giant Panda, so it is an essential addition to the themes related to Panda like Sichuan Basin or Qinling Mountain. Someone may argue why Chinese players' thoughts matter, b/c about 21% of PZ players are Chinese, which is more than players from any other country.
Since the support almost ended and the slots of animals are almost full, I am not expecting the Frontier to offer GSN Monkeys, I just wait for the good Mod of them, the Mod I found doesn't do a good job due to the weird head (the GSN Monkeys IRL have bump-liked head, but the Mod one has flat head) and lack of the long mantle on their back, it looks like the Modder made the GSN Monkey based on Proboscis Monkey's model, but they have significantly different head shape.

While I get being able to overall have a more versatile animal in game, this is why I want the GSNM. It means a lot to a huge amount of the player base, and for a huge population of the world is synonymous with zoos and conservation.

This is how I viewed the Wisent for European players, and how I view my American Black Bear for my fellow NA players. If you don’t use it for your zoos it’s fine. Someone else will use it thought. Also it doesn’t hurt to just make a zoo in a different part of the world sometimes.

No animal is a loss at this point, you are allowed to feel disappointed, and feel like better options exist. Still someone, somewhere, will use that animal. That’s not to say I haven’t been disappointed, I have been quite a lot. I just want birds and any mammal to me is a fun extra over a necessity (exception is another SA monkey).

So yes, consider me a part of the cult.

According to Zootierliste there are 32 zoos housing this animal in Asia, so although it is not my priority, I wouldn't make a drama if they add it to the game.
The actual number of holders is more than 32, since the data of many Asian facilities are still missing in zootierliste. The Everland Zoo in South Korea, Fuzhou Zoo the zoo in my hometown also hold GSN Monkeys but are not listed in Zootierliste.

After getting a Baboon I honestly would not be to mad if the GSNM took the role of our next non-SA monkey, just kidding the Fransicos Leaf Langur and Mantled Guereza for life BABY!!!!!

I would not hate a GSNM, (infact I kinda like it) but a Guereza or Langur would be so much better

so "GSN Monkey doesn't fit with realistic theme" will be the thing of past
Not really - Beauval Zoo is renowned for having rare and bizarre monkeys. It's a quirk of the zoo, not a trend its starting. Like if Bronx somehow got proboscis monkeys again that doesn't suddenly make them a basic zoo animal.

Anyway, my thoughts on the GSNM are basically that it's fine if we're assuming infinite new content, but a terrible choice if it comes at the expense of a second NWM.

Really, the capuchin should have been in the base game (and been made the less-immediately-recognisable but far more common tufted capuchin), a squirrel or howler monkey should have gone in the South America Pack, and then I think something like the GSNM would be more palatable to our non-Chinese members.

I agree with your statement, especially regarding the NWM issue.

But I just had to highlight this little blurb cause I think it fits so many animals in game, and even quite a lot of the animals we got in the past two years.

Undoubtedly, for a few at least. Robust capuchins in general are more common in zoos than gracile species, but gracile species are more immediately recognisable, particularly white-faced capuchins (first one that comes to mind is Marcelle from Friends). In other cases they gave us both anyway (siamang being the immediately most common species, lar/white-handed gibbon being the next).
