The great things about Elite Dangerous

I am a relative newbie. 6 months 600 hrs + . There is so much to do! The views are amazing. The play is endless. If you don't like some of the activities, you don't have to do it. The learning curve is steep but that's part of the challenge. Figuring something out is very satisfying. The community support is huge. Even the negative nellies on you-tube can be helpful. Even Yamiks says that Elite Dangerous is unique and should be played because there is nothing out there to compare it too. O7 to all, Fly safe

I started back in 85 and got back in on consoles in 2016 ?? Triple elite by 2018. Play the game naturally there is no rush to get anything as there is no end game. I have just bimballed around the Galaxy doing bits and pieces when I got bored of one thing I did something else until I fancied something else . Enjoy the game and take plenty of screenshots

I've been on a "gaming holiday" for the last few months (doing other RL stuff and enjoying it) and now have some time to play until September (more holiday!), no need to guess which game I picked back up on...

I just started doing screen shots
I hope to see some of your offerings in the "Stellar Screenshots" thread!

Started on the original Elite on the Spectrum I've been playing ED since the beta back in 2014 and I have just under 8000 hours in the game on my main account. I still love the game and it's my favourite game of all time. Sometimes I force myself to stop playing for a bit to play some other games but Elite is the one I always come back to.

600 is definitely not a newb anymore. A player < 100 h maybe - but several HUNDRED hours, that is a veteran.
No need to inflate the time needed to count as a seasoned player. The game is called Elite, but that doesn't mean it condones elitism.

Let's see... exploration, FA off, planetary circumnavigation, and the fact I can finally afford to have my Anaconda amenities delivered from Zaonce.

Thanks . I have managed to become Elite in exploration and on my way to Elite II . I do fine with trading. But I am definitely harmless when it comes to combat. I'm a duke and a ensign so at some point i will buy a fighting ship and give it a go. LOL it will be funny to watch, I'm sure. I don't like space death, The Thagoids and pirates got me. Didn't make my day.

It sounds a little bit familiar to me. I think I had been across Norma's Expanse and back, before I tried sticking around for a fight. In fact I had been to the expanse twice.. but, didn't make it back the first time!

When I decide to learn to fight I used the built in training - ..I used the "Incursions" training, in the advanced trainings section. This sets you up with a Cobra and a easy opponent for a nice test fight. Here and there, I took tries at that, til I could beat it on the regular. Then I bought a Cobra myself and let er rip on some low end pirates, and it was quite comfortable like the training!

I just fly around from place to place turning in exploration data, selling wares and kill bonds when needed. I'm not aiming for Elite having got Elite in all versions of Elite I have played this far the rank doesn't hold up.

When I get bored I reset the game and start again, yeah I know more now than I did at the start but the joy is in the small ships :)
