General / Off-Topic The greatest speech ever made

I once for some reason read about what "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." means. It apparently is interpreted by theologians to mean not to have fixed preconceptions in your mind, not "learned" in the way of dogmatic knowledge or blind faith.

Spiritual +1 to Cosmos for linking Noam Chomsky, unfortunately I can't rep you right now but your's shall be the kingdom of heaven ;)

The documentary that influenced my most in my life and "opened my eyes" really is Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky. The book especially is a scary scientific exploration in our media and democracy and explains many things but without resorting to silly conspiracy theories. It's just an effect of the structure of news media. It is centered on the US news media and the vietnam war and central america as example, but applies equally to the current war on terror and to a varying degree to the news media in all countries.

Yeah thats a great book. Among the many things I admire about Chomsky is his style. He doesn't get animated but just presents the facts to devastating effect. I just wish more people would read it. Another good book of his is 'How the world works' and if you really want to upset yourself read 'A peoples history of the United States' by Howard Zinn - that book is a huge eye opener. ;)

Whilst the web seems to be headed in the wrong direction lately - its awesome we can all watch his lecturers as if we were sat there in the audience.
