The Hazards of an Explorer.

Its quite funny watching the waterfall of text streaming down. Its like a Matrix gif that just spells out "killers about!" and if you don't take heed, well......

To be fair, in my experience flying around hot zones in Open as a willing sheep on PS4 the comms panel isn't often the clearest, especially when it's going akka with textual tetris. And if I'm reading through the messages, I'm not watching the scanner or where I'm flying...

My beef is that ED provides information all over- some small hints and some large - but the biggest skill is processing it. My driving instructor teaching me to drive said "flirt with your mirrors but don't marry them"- you need to be darting about and not lingering soaking it all up. Its about building a picture as you go and developing a sixth sense for danger (and knowing where danger is).

I was in two minds whether I should visit the ghost ship in Open regardless (my Exploration build Courier would be fast enough to escape no problem) but the idea that I get chased away by meta gankboats flown by clownfaces before I can enjoy the solemn (ghost ship, remember) atmosphere and reading the logs at peace, to having to switch to Solo afterwards regardless, didn't appeal to me in the end.

And despite my stance on Powerplay its fully understandable to switch to solo or PG here for that- because IMO this is 'story' and detached from other players really.

I was ganked yesterday too in Musca something.

Because I totally messed up the highwake. Even recorded it.

But why on earth did you go there in open with that much explo Data? I lost a conda rebuy for 9 Million, don't care.

Ever ever ever drop your explo Data before entering Hotspots!

Yeah, in cases like these, particularly if it's the first time I visit a location and expect other players to be around (doesn't matter if they're hostile or not) immersion always trumps social interaction for me.

After months on my Phantom; I've traveled to Jaques Station; I've traveled to Explorer's Anchorage and I've gone to Beagle Point.

I've chosen the slow sightseeing route to come back to the bubble. I was in Morgan's Rock. To celebrate the current event, I've reload the game in open and I've raced, directly to Chuckchan.

Upon arrival, in between all the Fleet Carriers present in the area, I've manage to locate the mysterious ship.
When reaching the ship, I've stopped my speed to scan her. I was immediately killed by a player, in a mater of seconds.

I've lost months of exploration data. I really don't know what the other player gained from it. Looking at the logs, I've been scanned first... I didn't have anything inside my ship. I think I'll take a long break from ED.
A break, yes, but don't give up the game. That's what they want.

This is my distinction between a hostile player and... other sort. The pirate or bounty hunter wants to play the game with me. The other sort wants to stop me playing it.

Haven't seen it mentioned yet but FDev ised to offer a one-off get out of jail restore to Cmdrs ship/data in the event of ship loss.

Happened to a guy on Perseus that accidently boosted into an ice crystal, he contacted support and after several days his ship and all carto data was restored.

Gotta be honest, you'll have to look up the procedure for doing this yourself, and it may be if you respawned it's too late for them to do anything, but by the sound of it it's worth a shot.

Good luck Cmdr, I hope you learnt from this and come back to Elite regardless of this setback.

Let us know how you got on.

This was your mistake. I too returned to the Bubble after a short stint of exploration, with a cargo hold of LTDs to boot. My first stop was to drop off the LTDs, watching my contact list like a hawk. Then I went to Lave to cash in my exploration data (gotta turn that wheel), and then finally I went to the Chukchan. I was still in my exploration ship, so I parked it at the local station and transferred over my two stealth ships, which I'll use today to visit a certain POI in Open. Gankers gonna gank, that's just their nature.

(FWIW, I feel for you and despise meaningless ganking, but your fate was totally avoidable.)

They were nice enough to give me a mulligan after a moment of (totally my own fault) space madness involving a long way home and the self-destruct button, so it’s always worth asking.

As an explorer with a Phantom I offer my sympathy. However, what you are prepared to lose is always a fundamental aspect of life in Open. If the prospect of loss at a particular point in time seems unreasonable then you do have other options.

So yes. Have a break. Life and tough lessons and all that. But do come back. A little wiser too...

Empty words, because chances was not even. Ganker got tonns of fun and lose 0 in case killed. He is ready to do 1000 rebuys. This guy in case of win gets nothing, in case of lose he lost couple months of life.
I would agree with your text if ganker gets no rebuy button when killed, i.e. lost his prismatic shield forever and needs another 4 weeks to restore it.

Sorry to hear that man, but don't let the gankers get you down. Unfortunately we all lose precious things sometimes, such is life. But there's also a lot of good people out there, your challenge is to find them, bring them into your circle .. it's a good goal to have

Empty words again. Life is not a game. Game does not have evolution implemented. You can't get better being killed 1000 times. In real life if u survived that means u did all the best, others who died - they dont have children who can repeat their mistakes.

Would be good to increase disincentives to ganking
There is an excellent disincentive...

If players who have no wish of being blown up by other players removed the target using their own initiative, then those players who wish for PvP of any description would only find willing participants and the recurring topic of "I was blown up" would cease to exist ;)

I think the ganders deserve now to be able to pick up a fraction of the data you had on board and then sell it. Together with your bits and bobs. It upsets me to see consumate professionals unrewarded

Sad for you OP but also after at least months of playing, you should have known the risks of POIs in open play.

Without the fear of punishment, most humans become psychos. Or in case of a game: griefers.
Open has no real consequences for griefers so they do whatever they want. If you wont deal with them, stay out of open.

Still say griefing should turn a savegame into iron man mode to enable real consequences for murdering people and griefers should be excluded from docking permissions at civilized stations. If they want to be murderes, they should stick with their kind ... at pirate controlled stations

But the ganker has possibly also spent months building a meta ship via engineering etc. The ganker obviously flies in open, the victim chooses to fly in open as well.
The victim goes to a place where there is a very large chance of a gankers, in a paper ship, loaded with explo data.
But it is all the gankers fault🤔

And surely if the victim here had handed in explo data before literally sticking his head in the crocodiles mouth, then he would indeed have "won" as you put it?

If you don't want to interact with players who, for whatever reason, may attempt to blow you up, play in solo or PG. It really is that simple. For me the chances are exactly equal for both CMDRs🤷‍♂️

I have yet to murder another CMDR in game and play almost exclusively in Open, but if someone blows up my pretend spaceship in open, then i should've been better.
It is not the end of the world, take it on the chin, adapt, survive, improve.

Think once, think twice, think don't fly a paper ship in open then get upset if someone blows you up for whatever reason👍

This argument would have greater weight if that ganker's ship wasn't covered under rebuy. Perhaps rebuys should be removed from Open mode, to make it equally dangerous for everyone - after all, the explorer doesn't have a rebuy option for his data. 🤷
