The hunt for Anomaly Particles

tl;dr I'm trying to find Anomaly Particles, almost certainly derived from Anomalies, somehow. Care to help?

Just to establish some context, I wouldn't call myself an "Explorer" by most player standards; I'll gladly admit I simply don't have the endurance to "find new things".

What I do have the stomach for though, is finding out unknown things about known things. For example, trying to find a Thargoid Sensor (Then Unknown Artifact) to ultimately decode the morse it transmits, interactions between guardian items and Thargoids, and so on. A good deal of this ultimately comes down to simply wanting to experience something for myself, and if I discover an unknown thing, I'm down for that

New Exploration mechanics around Notable Stellar Phenomena, Space Organics and the like are therefore a massive welcome to me. One of my key interests revolves around Anomalies, and discovering their unique effects and interactions.

I have a character currently jetting around the galaxy in order to explore all the Anomalies, and other spatial organics along the way (surface features are less interesting to me, unless it's Thargoid or Guardian in origin). On top of that, I have a bent for collecting samples along the way:

One such sample that's eluding me though, are the Anomaly Particles: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/what-does-liz-beta-ryder-know-that-eddb-doesnt-yet.458915/

They almost certainly won't do much, but my wont to find them is probably the biggest driver for me on this hunt. I've traipsed around numerous, but far from all the Anomaly types, but am yet to come across one I can sample particles from, in any form.

I once thought the fact I could fire Research Limpets at some mollusc variants which always failed meant that getting samples was bugged. I still think that's the case, but later found there's other, larger molluscs where these samples can be found.

I am yet to find any Anomalies which can have research limpets fired at them, which to me suggests they either:
  • Aren't valid targets for sampling, and I just need to find a variant I can sample (like in the case of molluscs); or
  • There's some interaction you can do with them which renders them "docile" and can then be scooped.
I've employed almost every scanner or effect I can think of at each one I've come across, save some of the more exotic ones (such as Anti-Xeno Field Neutralisers) and had no joy... nor have I had any joy finding a researchable/scoopable one. Googling this sort of thing just provides old/outdated information for most of the non-bubble anomalies, and there's plenty of stuff which is discovered in game, and isn't on the usual wiki pages and the like, so I'm coming here to try and find some like-minded help.

Types I've looked at so far are (Red text for those which I'm aware exist, but haven't investigated):
Inner Orion Spur: All known (P-01, Q-04, Q-08, Q-09)
Inner Scutum Centaurus Arm: All known (P-02)
Norma Expanse: All known (K-02)

Empyrean Straits: P-03, T-01
Galactic Center: L-01, L-04, L-05, K-10, Q-02, T-04, T-02, Q-06, P-13, P-15,
Currently in Odin's Hold: E-04, K-01, K-06, K-08

If you want to help...let me know if
  • you've been to any of these Anomalies, and if you took note of whether they could be sampled. I'l still eventually visit them, but just lower on the priority scale.; or
  • Any exotic techniques which have resulted in some form of interaction with Anomalies. For reference, everything I find gets this treatment:

Thanks, and good hunting!

PS: I have a passing interesting in sampling a Calcite Plate Membrane... if you find a variant of that which can be sampled, let me know too. Calcite Plates (three variants) I checked out couldn't be sampled. :)

I been wondering for a while about this, since that list of items first surfaced.

It's possible it's just bugged -- there are a lot of issues with both the Codex and the new stellar phenomena not functioning as intended: junk text when finding new traits, certain objects not granting a Codex entry (and therefore appearing undiscovered in a certain region, despite being present and known to players), etc. -- but good luck on your search.

I do wonder what is the nature of these anomalies Are they simply inanimate electrical phenomena, similar to ball lightning perhaps? Or are they some sort of life but not as we know it kinda dealy?

In case it's the latter, has anyone tried presenting them with Thargoid or Guardian artefacts, or Soontill Relics? Remember how the Thargoid machine reacted when it was shown a Guardian doodah.

Greetings, Jmanis. I got inspired by your post here and decided that I might feel this is a worthy pursuit. So I am working on fine tuning my Anaconda for long range exploration in order to join you in this quest. Exploration has always been my preferred style of play in ED. I'll bring all the tools you showed above and then some, including various types of weapons. Look me up in game and send a friend request, why don't you? I'm CMDR NYG.

An update on my progress: I checked out the Q-04, Q-08 and Q-09 anomalies in the Inner Orion Spur, no interesting results to report. Heading now for the T-01 anomaly in the Empyreal Straits, and I have 125 jumps to go so I will reach it today. Don't really have any interesting to report on the three anomalies I visited in the Inner Orion Spur. Will eventually give a list of everything I used on the anomalies.

I checked out the four i updated in Odin's Hold in the Op... pretty, but no special or specific effects.

I have a bunch of pics/videos I've put in my private group, am planning to throw them in here at some point, turn this into an anomaly index, coz the codex thumbs don't do them justice.

PS been sick and forgot to add you last time i was on.

I arrived in Agnairy JH-U e3-2113 in the Empyrean Straits today, where the T-01 Anomaly. Was not able to produce any interesting results using the tools you mentioned above, and wasn't able to hit with all the weapons I brought. One curious thing about this anomaly is that is retreats away from you when you are within approximately 100 meters. It is slow enough that it's possible to follow it, but it makes hitting it with various weapons harder. It is white and slightly purple, and leaves behind smaller particles in its wake with the same colouration as the anomaly itself. These smaller particles can be seen in the picture as well. Ramming it with my Taipan fighter was also fruitless. It resides in a Viride Lagrange Storm Cloud, which causes turbulence to the ship in a wide radius. There were some spectacular visual effects from this cloud due to all the light strikes. I also found there were "hot spots" within the storm cloud, and around it. I found one of these hot spots on my way out of the cloud. Within the blue backdrop, i saw a cluster of small green lightning strikes. As I flew close to this gather or small lightning, my shields started taking damage, causing visual system interference, and then... I hit some invisible hitbox and my ship (an Anaconda) is thrown off in another direction. Note that this "hot spot" I found had seemingly nothing to do with the anomaly itself, since it was not near me when this happened. I'll be heading toward the Q-06 anomaly in the Myriesly CL-P E5-7383 system in the Galactic Centre now. I can provide more details on my findings on the T-01 Anomaly if you need, but I thought those two happenings described above was the most interesting.

I'd love to go take some samples, too, but so far the game offers no point to do so other than personal interest. Even if you do gather the samples, they will only slow you down on your exploration. When you come back to the bubble, you become the target of pirates and all you can do with the samples is sell them.

If only we'd be able to at least unload such finds to some showcase. EDIT: Better yet, use them to craft even better exploration tools or something.

@space voyager you're right, the game offers no point to do so other than personal interest. But that seems to be true for almost all aspects of this game. Being the kind of gamer that wants to complete all achievements, this game is very hard to handle for me. At the same time, there is something fascinating and intriguing about it... I love the game, and I hate the game. I've always struggled with the lack of "things to do" in this game, still do. It's the most role play-like game that isn't a role playing game I've ever encountered :) Because it really forces you to make up a story or a goal. But I totally agree with you on the fact that they should have storage not only for modules, but for commodities as well. Maybe it's possible on the personal fleet carrier business they recently revealed. In fact, that's actually a pretty good idea. I would actually consider farming the credits for that thing if it would enhance (not just simplify) exploration and archaeology for all us science people.

Pity there is no use of the samples other than to sell them for a low price... Those pieces of organic life and generally all alien materials should fetch market prices of void opals and all those ultra pricey mined minerals. You take the risk of travelling far, with low cargo capacity to pick up some samples to be sold for measly ~20k ~30k. No...

Update: I've checked the Q-06, the P-13 and P-15 anomaly. Nothing of interest to report. The P-15 leaves a nice purple trail as it moves. P-13 is basically just a small white globe. The P type anomalies causes interference to ship systems and shield attacks, whereas the Q-06 causes shield break attacks. Also found that many anomalies can be found in clusters. I've seen as many as 10 anomalies on my Contacts list at one time. This may already be known to you. Also checked out the T-04 anomaly, and these are my favourite. They seem rather friendly, no damaging attacks or reaction to proximity, I can't seem to hit them with any attacks, and when I parked my ship near it, the anomaly, and all the smaller sister particles surrounding it, slowly approaches the ship and place themselves around it, see picture. Curious and friendly creatures, if they are creatures.

Well, my whole family is sick, so I've not been able to do anywhere near as much on this the last few days as I thought I would. Plus, something something new Thargoid variant. Either way, to help liven things up, here's happy snaps of (most of) the ones I've visited so far. A couple I didn't take as they were particularly uninteresting, but I regret not doing that now...

Nice pics, friend. I kinda wish I made a better effort of making better pics while there. I decided to take a small brake from anomaly hunting, to wait for an in game name change (on that is more pronouncable and convenient for social/squadron/discord) and join a squadron before I turn in my big exploration data. Wanted to go do some thargoid stuffs too, but I want to return to science eventually. I hope you and your family will get better soon.

Finished off the rest of the known anomalies in Odin's Hold (except the P type, coming back for that scrub that, my ship can only do ~180LY, and it's near the top of an ascent needing ~220 LY. Oh well. https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/new-galactic-height-record.357041/ )

Quick question

So if the Anomaly Particles is the only one on the list you haven't found

What did you biopsy to get the
Calcite Organism Membrane
Calcite Organism Mycelium
Calcite Organism Spores

It's not the only one I haven't found... it's just the one I'm most interested in :)

I been meaning to get back studying these things. I can't find if any research on them, not even on Canonn.
Details are quite scant... most don't have screenshots or video for them, let alone accurate descriptions.

Unfortunately... information like this makes me loathe to try and find new anomalies.
