Newcomer / Intro The Ignore List

Does anyone know, is it possible to see what materials and fragment types are on your Ignore list when mining? I know of the option to add or remove things from the list when they are found in the Contacts tab, and ignored things there are coloured red, but is it really necessary to find an actual fragment of something before you can check its status?

The short answer is no.

I mean of course that you can only remove something from the list if you can see it in your contacts panel. Daft innint?

What's the use-case? Like if you want to do a "mine cobalt" mission, but you have blocked cobalt then once you start mining you see the fragments are blocked, unblock them and carry on.

The interface is clunky, but I can't think of where it would be a problem...

Yes, it's not a real problem. Before embarking on a mining trip I would like to review what I'm looking for and be all set up; but you're right, I can do it once I start breaking fragments.

It is not just for mining.

When buggy-prospecting it is easy to forget that you had some items "hidden" but now have used some up. So one needs to remember to check the contacts screen after shooting-up the meteorite / outcrop to see whether any of the greyed-out items are present. (You don't see the "hidden" element chunks on your scanner display.)

Current CG:

Find a rock with Gallite and Lepodite and mine it. Lots of collector activity and some Gallite refined. Must not be as much Lepodite as I thought.

Find a rock with Lepodite and mine it. Launch a couple collectors. "No valid collection targets" What??? Oh. Remove Lepodite from ignore list.

I know, I know: Problem exists between keyboard and chair.

... second problem is Lepidolite is not a CG material. :)

It's far worse than clunky.

If you have gold on ignore, as well as fragments of gold, you won't see cans of gold dropped by NPCs.

It's also possible to have stripped a roid and processed much of its fragments before noticing that you've ignored one of the contents. Too late then, as the processed ones have been junked.

An interface that manages all ignored mats and commodities is a basic quality of life thing that should have been added with the ignore function.

Shortly after the ignore list was added, I went surface mining, filled up on iron, added it to my ignore list and carried on mining.

Over the next few weeks I used a fair bit of iron.

Three weeks later I went asteroid mining. I didn't go to get iron, but I would have been happy to have any I picked up.

Except that for about the first hour I didn't pick up any because it was on my ignore list, which I'd somehow managed to forget after three weeks. Anything on the Ignore list is greyed out and easily overlooked.

So I can think of where it would be a problem. I'd really like a list I could inspect and edit before I go mining.

This is a good example of how bad the interface is. Doubly so, as we have a permanent list of all mats in the righthand menu. It would be trivial to add a checkbox to this list.

Though for mats, there's really no need to ignore them, as your limpets will ignore mats that you have maxed out on - except for one or two limpets when you've just hit the limit.

Make me wonder why an ignore list isn't already reviewable to remove items or even a button to purge the list of ignore entries.

It's really not that complicated guys.
Get some sticky notes and a pencil.
Stick them on the bottom edge of your monitor and you don't even have to press a single button to view your list.

Or just get a notebook.

If you have a long list get a spreadsheet app on your phone and you can sort by name, date, quantity in stock etc..
It'll give you something to do while cruising long distances.

I was thinking of something like the attached.

Somebody obviously doesn't play in VR.

Trust me, you don't want to be mucking about taking notes in VR.
