The Krait Phantom (with Scott Manley) [Elite Dangerous]

But was it better than a similarly engineered Mk2 Krait?
I didn't buy it to be better than the Mk2, just an alternative. But with the Phantom I felt I hit a sweet spot between armour, shields, weapons and manoueverability.

I'm finding it harder to get to the same sweet spot with the Mk2, but it's still pretty good ... and of course can carry cargo for missions.

Wonderful video. As in, literally full of wonder.

One day I will make the voyage to Sag A*. One day.

I guess it’s fortunate that my ship of choice is already a Phantom. So I would like to say “I’m sold”, but the truth is, I was sold pretty much when the ship was first released.
Cheers
:)

It's a top quality pvp ship as well due to that speed, its shields are about hte same as the mk2s, its armor is only a little less, its heat profile is spectacular. This video does well at highlinghting its 'main' strength, but it's a good combat ship too.

I prefer to properly explore in an Orca, frankly, but yeah, the Phantom can be a phenomenal ship. Never really got on with the Krait II (given I don't tend to fight, why would I pick that over the Python for a med-ship), but I immediately loved the Phantom, and it's become my dedicated hunter-gatherer for materials/data.

The colouring and detailing of the interior is one of the best in the game, but for exploration I think the view's a little too restrictive, so that'd be the only real black mark against it for proper exploration.

Depending on exactly what someone wants to do with it as a multi-role, it's also pretty darn good at that, too, so I disagree with the OP/video on it being terrible at dabbling in various roles.

Excellent as always. These (your) videos (grouped together) should be included as part of the ED Game Package, under the in-game "Shipyard", so when you click on a ship and look at it's specifications, you could watch it as a "pre-sale" showroom video, before making the purchase.

Not that Frontier would ever consider it, but it would be nice to have some kind of "in-game" sales videos linked to the specs sheet, to further enhance your interests in "Why Should I Buy This Ship?", "What Is This Ship Good For?" or "What Can I Do With This Ship?

Other than forum recommendations and critiques, or third party build recommendations, there is nothing in the game itself which can give you this information.

Again, well done.

Thank you! That's high praise.

I don't think it'll ever happen either, but...I wouldn't say no if I was asked. ;)

I actually wanted to do a whole section on the interior, and the disappointment I had in myself for not naming the ship "Talon". But I was already over the 10 minute mark, and I'm not sure how well a Farscape reference would work.

I agree. It's not bad, but whenever I fly a Krait, I get associations of driving a pick-up camper. If you are already sitting in a crystal palace, why not move it out front like a type-whatever. And no Yamicks, it's not being an exhibitionist. It's just amazing to see the Universe in VR, unhindered. I love everything about the Conda including the feeling of flying an oil tanker, but I would love it even more sitting in a greenhouse out front.

It would've flown over my head, as I never quite clicked with that show. ; -)

I actually scrolled your video down and just listened to the audio (tabbed open the Anaconda vid afterwards), as I've still not visited A*, and want to save a proper look for when I finally reach it (in a Corvette packed full of inessential modules like a 1st class passenger cabin and two SLF's... ).

The Krait II's exterior design (the engine mounts, most obviously), redundant third seat, and unfavourable comparisons to the king of the medium pad multi-roles all made the Phantom more appealing for how I'd use a new med-pad ship, but the interior was a huge bonus, too - as warmly and smartly inviting as the mrk.II's was cold and mundane.

It's also the first ship I ended up fitting G5's dirties to (took me an age to bother to progress through Qwent and Palin), and it's such a good ship to fly FA-off. Awesome boost and deceleration sound, too. Wasn't that keen on any of the Alliance ships' build potential, can't really find a use for the Mamba, but the Phantom seems like a new mainstay of the fleet. For how I choose to use it, I like every single thing about it, which is exceptionally rare.

When you get to the Python video, just keep in mind I praise the hell out of that ship for the vast majority of the review.

Great video. I like the approach. It's like Top Gear for space ships. You've sold me on the phantom, I'm going to try one out as soon as I get back to the bubble.

Your vid sold me on the phantom. Gonna replace my dolphin as my explorer ship. (Not quite. I still love my dolphin. Best supercruise agility in my opinion.) But I gotta tell you that the phantom hasn't overheated once while fuel scooping even with all modules on (and I'm pretty reckless while scooping)

Thanks for you said everything that I can't do in english about my favorite ship! Maybe it represent how much I love this thing to after my Beagle Point trip my beloved Artemis had her rest, and I built another one, with only one difference, my new explorer have bigger fuel tank. Artemis will not leave the hanger anymore. I refueled her, but the paint job is at 0%, so she is a memento. Memento for that more than 130KLy trip where she took me. Thanks, Baby!
