Ships The Lakon Type-7 Owner's Club

We didn't have one, and now we do.

2.2 Really gave us a lovely new ship, she literally improved overnight.

How do you fit and engineer your baby?

It's probably the only big ship I would really enjoy. Cheap too... Maybe one day.

I have one it's not a bad ship, not been looking really at engineering solutions at this point as I'm undecided on if I will keep it if I go on to the type 9. But if I do then fsd grade 5 , shield strength and when we get modules protection packs engines and power plant if the benefits are not tons of extra weight, maybe down grade the thrusters but grade 5 tuning so fsd range is again up and reduced risk of multiple jumps.

I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with the Type-7. I had a pre-2.2 experience with it and was thoroughly unimpressed, but I thought I'd give it a try as I fancied a change. I haven't tried to engineer it yet, but here is my setup.

In summary, I A-rated all my core modules except for Life Support and Sensors (these are D-rated). I've also A-rated my shield generator, and then maxed out all the optional modules for cargo.

For hardpoints I haven't bothered with any medium weapons. I fitted two mine launchers to the small hardpoints to try them out, and to my surprise I took out a Wanted NPC that had interdicted me, so these are staying.

For utilities, I installed an A-rated Shield Booster, point protection, and two chaff launchers. I've set a button on my T16000 to release chaff without having to deploy hardpoints, and in this way, I can release chaff from both launchers one after the other, instead of all in one go. Pretty handy as you are boosting away as you can have a regular stream of chaff to throw off your hunter.

It's a pretty funky ship, not as clunky as the T-9, but I'm not sure I will keep it. Ultimately I'd love to fit out an Imperial Cutter for trading, but for now the T-7 will do and it's become more fun to fly.

The T7 is indeed a good trader now, post 2.2, and it will be even better come 2.2.03 when it gets double hull points. No longer is it the "flying coffin" and it comfortably out-trades the Clipper. For pure trading purposes, it is even competitive with the Python, a ship more than 3 times as expensive.

I flew a type-7 outfitted like this for a good while:
https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/typ...0202.Iw18aQ==.CwBhGYEZLAmeHzMmIg==.&bn=Trader

A few personal observations on the type-7:
* Mine launchers on the front two hardpoints ended up detonating on the shields for me. I left the front hardpoints empty and used mine launchers only on the top and bottom. The front hardpoints would be great for a miner though!
* It yaws as good as it pitches and that is very nice. No need to bother with roll + pitch, instead just point it in the direction you want, and off you go! This also makes it easy to avoid interdictions. I don't think I lost even a single interdiction (against NPCs) during my time in the type-7.
* The maximum yaw/pitch speed is maybe not that impressive, but it is very responsive to small directional adjustments around the center. It won't be winning you any turning battles, but I found it to be a joy to maneuver around a station.

Hmm... it also looks like it is possible to install class 3 shield and gain additional 24T of cargo, like this.
Only like ~2% optimal/maximum mass increase needed, which should be fairly easy to get.

Nice! I didn't think to engineer the shields, but that is a good and simple improvement. 296 T of cargo while still having some shields is a very appealing thought.

Been flying one for a while now. It flies fine once you get used to it and what you can get away with. I run a modded 3A shield, a fuel scoop, can jump 25 lys with a full load. If I do get interdicted ( by simply not fighting it when I choose to do so) I put 4 pips to engines, boost a couple times and jump, no prob at least against npc.s but dont delay or you might not be happy. I might have a scanner on too, cant remember, for that I can carry 264t. Cant beat it for the money. Probably its biggest shortfall , considering its a flying truck and not a fighter, is that it can get hot pretty easy. I run 2 PD's, chaff and a heat sink. I do have a couple mine launchers but only as a last defense to escape. I will always keep it even if I do move up in time. It has its value. Just dont try and be a hero in it! lol

OK, had to come back and change my post, Im running a modded 4A shield and no scanner which gets me 264.

I am quite the T-series junkie.
Here is the build I currently fly with much success.

Corolis junkie too. Let's see your builds...

I have spent a lot of time in this build:

https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/typ...lQJZIFgsDw///DHAAAE7HsLwhAAAA&bn=Eleanor Rose

And I thank you for the link to the updated Coriolis site, I've been working on the old one!

This ship and I have really come a long way. It's viable for CG runs, does awesome trade runs and is even capable of doing those ridoculous Ceos runs (with a little modification or two)

I've been thinking of trading her in for a Python, but Eleanor Rose and I have come too far for that. I don't even think I'll trade her in when I graduate to the Clipper or the Type-9.
Who would have thought I'd get so attached?

It's is fun ship and your build looks good.
I have an odd attachment to "specialist" ships like the T9, T7, and to a slightly lesser extent the more versatile T6.
Looking forward to the rumored, upcoming, T9 "buff."
Yes the new Corolis site is quite cool. Don't know how I would do the ship stuff without it.

I've put many an hour, many a light year, and countless tons of cargo in mine.
It's carried me through several CGs.
As a matter of fact, I first acquired mine during my first CG - the now somewhat legendary Moria CG.
Previously I'd done my hauling in a Keelback, but it just didn't have the cargo space to get the job done. So there I was, sitting in Moira, looking at ships, and my pathetic credit balance. The Type-7 seemed like such a nice ship, with a whole lot more cargo space, but... to buy it and outfit it.. I'd barely have enough to cover a rebuy if something went terribly wrong. Ugh.
UGH! I didn't click off of it, I bought the darned thing instead. I figured, oh well, I've got it now, might as well make use of it, and I can always sell it back after the CG.
And when the CG closed, and I was +200 million credits - I kept it. One part trophy, one part because it had paid for itself over and over and over.

Then it got a buff - a resizing of internals plus some extra hull - it was a beautiful thing. And it still is. All engineered out, I've an empty jump range of 31 Ly! But who takes an empty Type-7 anywhere? Fully loaded it still manages 22 Ly per jump. And it's impressively quiet in flight, which I like. And when Liz Ryder needed 200 tons of landmines.. guess what got them delivered? You guessed it.

The Keelback could use some serious love.
Supposedly the "big brother" to the T6 and it hauls less cargo!?!
Sometimes I wonder how some ships leave the Dev's drawing board.

"Big Brother" as in, it beats up the bullies who hassle his "little bro". Could be a cultural thing. It was much more common a meme in the 70s and 80s.

I love my keelback. I'm very glad it was born into this world.

As a ship-launched fighter trainer, there is nothing in the game that even comes close to that role. If you want a crew member, then the keelback gets you that gameplay much earlier than the gunship. For some people, that's months of play time earlier.

So far, I have 100% success killing interdictors with my SLF and keelback, while leveling up my Federali ranks. I have piloted the keelback, as well as the SLFs. It's a blast.

And thank goodness. Because I'm not sure I'll even get a Gunship any time soon-- I have other things to spend my money on right now. So praise the keelback.

It's obviously NOT a dedicated cargo hauler, and so it has no reason to match the cargo capacity of a similarly-sized dedicated cargo hauler. The only reason anyone would think that it should, is if that person wants all the things, all the time. Which is just ... bad reasoning skills, in this case.

I recently moved on from the Type 7 and purchased a Python, after the inevitable misery that comes with a no-insurance loss, I had to work my way back up the ladder. I'm back in my Type 7 and I honestly can't remember being happier. For traders, this ship is just the perfect middle point. From here we will move on to bigger things, but while we grind that CR out for our Cutter or Python there can be no better beast of burden than the Type 7.

Has the type 7 gotten a buff to her optional internals? Last I checked, the Clipper out trades her.

That was always my beef with that ship: it needs a large landing pad, but her hauling capacity isn't up to par with her size. The Python, a medium multirole, totally out cargos her.

Yes, they made T7 more viable. It can have 296T cargo with engineered class 3 shield...
More than clipper, and even slightly more than python.
It still has disadvantage of large pad with similar cargo compared to python, but when you consider it's price...

I love my T7. It has been a workhorse for me. I've engineered mine quite a bit, and it's increased utility a lot. I'm saving up for an Anaconda, at the moment, so the T7 has been my friend for sure.

How in blazes did you get 296 cargo? Thats very impressive Cmdr!

I never really engineered mine, but even after I got the Python I found myself going back to the Type 7. The drawback of Large pads is a fair price to pay for everything we get.
