I'm sorry but...who's Lars?

The October report is upon us! Soon we will be treated to visual update on LT's progress and I can definitely say I am looking forward to it. :)

And yes, Philip Coutts, many have tried to post in the LT Forums and all have been absorbed into our collective thoughts! :D

Lars was a man, some said he was a robot who never slept but that was never proved, who drove the Elite Dangerous Kickstarter. He always seemed to be online and also had positive thoughts. He answered loads of questions on the kickstarter and was one of life's good guys. Even in the darkest days of the kickstarter when the total hardly moved, Lars was there with positive vibes. Can't speak highly enough of the bloke. I miss his comments and positivity.

Ha ha yes I sneaked a look over a cup of coffee this morning when I should have been working. Keep meaning to spend more time on the LT forums but I keep getting drawn into the ED forums. I'll try and have a longer look tomorrow promise!

It was good to see you this morning Philip. Drop in when you can and take part in the discussions. I think your arrival shell-shocked a few who were probably wondering what was going on. Glad you found my post in the games section. I meant every word of what I said. *imagine a really big smile not a grin*

The *smilies are a bit limited here.:D

Yes Lars was always positive during KS campaign. A good guy for sure, it is a shame he have not time to be here in the forum ;)

If I remember correctly Lars was on paternity leave during the Kickstarter. That, combined with an obviously very forgiving spouse, gave him some spare time.
Unfortunately real life catches up with us all every now and then.

He lives only about an hours drive from me, so maybe I should try to lure him out for a launch party in Oslo come March.

Well, I'm sure we'll be up for a LT update any day now.

Hopefully today but certainly very "soon". I do like the updates, Josh shows off a lot of gameplay and I think it ties together very nicely with the dev diaries. Can't wait for the next update!

I really need to have a good look around the LT forums. I'm generally quite busy here though.

Well stop talking about it and get yourself over there. I've made the effort to be here What sort of excuse is "quite busy". :D

As long as you don't catch Gazz having a bad day you should be fine.

Serving the Elite COmmunity comes first. ;)

Goodness the latest update is AMAZING.....I can't believe the awesomeness of the Data Editor........

Josh *IS* the next David Braben ! I love the way how he says having the Data Editor represented graphically is "a really neat concept"..... total understatement. :)

Wow. Seriously wow. I urge everyone to watch the latest update, one word of warning though it's 22 minutes long. The tech tree and modding interfaces are beautiful, stunning in fact. Such a simple idea but so well presented and user friendly. THe work that Josh is putting into this is superb, seriously this guys attention to detail is amazing. LT is looking more and more like it's going to be one of the greatest space sims out there.

I think Josh's achievements so far are incredible, but just to be the voice of grumpiness and negativity (not like me, I know :p )...

The warp gates, everywhere, suck! He seems to be saying they're there to avoid point to point travel... but why can't he just implement the same effect without crappy gates, and call it a different mode of the ship's drives? They're really bad - there must be billions upon billions of them, in total, and it just seems overly implausible.

The ini file editor was indeed, amazingly pretty, but on a practical level I can't see it being easier to edit than a text file with a search function!

Different strokes for different folks I suppose! I don't mind the gates, they are not my favourite thing in the world but I don't have that strong an opinion on them. I vastly prefer the tech tree / modding approach to a text editor and search function which is pretty dull.

I meant the modding part only, the tech tree is very nice. :)

The gates are a big turn-off for me too - but I didn't back the game anyway.

The gate's are not actually necessary though as you can cruise at high speeds where you want to. I wonder if you could just mod them out of the game using the new tools he has implemented if you don't like them.

As for the latest update I am becoming increasingly impressed with the talent being shown but I am still unsure as to whether the game design will be equally as good once more of the game is in place. The way I see it is that it's like a big sand box with perhaps too much customisation. Lukily that means at some point some much needed limitations can be put in play to create an interesting game experience. That's the bit I'm most looking forward to in seeing.

Also that in game data editor is awesomesauce, I would totally have that as my file system browser :D

I should point out that I did back the game, and would have even if I never play it - he deserved the backing for having the balls and brains to tackle this thing (more or less) on his own!

I have to say I totally LOVE the gates and I totally LOVE the depth of customisation, that is exactly the kind of tweaks I want to be able to do in a game. Adds a whole new set of levels. LOVE it. :):)
