I am a old fan of Elite having play it as a young kid when it originally came out in 1984. A friend of mine and I played Elite Plus when it came out. After that I lost touch with the game until mid last year when, out of curiosity, I did an Internet search on some old game favorites of mine to see if there were remakes or abandon-ware with emulators. When I saw Elite Dangerous I was ecstatic! This is what I envisioned game would look like back when all we had to look at was wireframe graphics on my old Apple IIgs. What is more it far exceeded my expectations with so many different aspects of that game being introduced with Power Play and Horizons. I have become a fan all over again.
After spending time as a trader, miner, and occasional bounty hunter I decided to try something different. I have not thoroughly checked to see if this has been done yet or not, but I have decided to try to circumvent the galaxy. My plan is to try to keep the approximate distance of Sol from the galactic center as my parameter for my journey. I am calling this venture the “Magellan Project” in honor of the explorer Fernando Magellan who's expedition was the first known to circumvent the earth via the ocean.
I also decided to take a different approach to reporting on my explorations. Rather than a blog posting of my progress I have decided to post journal entries from the viewpoint of my fictitious Elite Dangerous commander, Rand Jasc. I hope that such an approach will make the chronicle of my journey more interesting if done through his eyes rather than just a dry report from me. I will be keeping a spreadsheet of systems visited and objects scanned that I will publish along the way.
My target quarter, half, and three quarter waypoints are as follows:
Some facts about Commander Rand Jasc prior to his departure are below. I will report these stats again when I return to my starting point to give the differential of my journey.

Since I have started out on my journey on the 27th of January 2016 I have visited several systems and taken a few screenshots. Which means I have some catching up to do... I am working on the first few journal entries from Rand's perspective and hope to have them posted before the week is over.
