The mailslot size is huge!

I don't have any trouble getting my ships through the mailslot, what I have trouble with is getting my ships through the mailslot quickly. Trying to get a Federal DriftShip through the letterbox at an imperfect angle at boost speeds is an entirely different issue.

When I fly my Beluga, I used to frequently get the tail fins caught in the grid .... when I watch them coming through the slot there isn't much room for error. I'm a bit better at flying it now, but if I went to an Anaconda with its topside bridge, I think I would have problems adjusting. As for the Cutter ... well I am in awe that anyone can get that thing through unscathed

IF you want a proper view of how big the station entrances (and just stations in general, including surface installations) are, pop on a VR headset and dock. They're huge.

Yes they are huge. But noway you need a vr set to see the size of it..appreciate.ok fair enough.
The only thing you need to see that its huge? A normal pair of eyes that are watching a mediocre screen.
everyone who hits the entrance..even two anacondas side by side...is a really poor pilot..ofcourse when not flying drunk.

I'm still waiting for a painted entrance on the back side as april fools prank though

I managed it not long after Release. I flew around the buildings and was buffeted through the geometry into the rear of the station. Only to be destroyed for trespassing.
Like a fool I reported it as a bug. :)
You could try it in training. It was fun.

I fly the Cutter with no docking computer no problem. I have to disagree with you about belugas though. THEY ALWAYS GUN IT FOR ME. Heck, they get stuck in the mail slot all the time even when I'm docked still. There's ALWAYS Beluga debris floating around the port.

Greetings,

Moving up to larger ships players have problems getting in/out through the mailslot at a station. But per this picture link it is really huge. The problem is flying smaller craft then trying to do the same with a much larger one. It is an optical illusion which I bet some Dev who programmed this is laughing at you!

The solution is simple. Buy a Docking Computer and see how it makes a perfect approach to the mailslot. This also works when departing a station. Then you can do the same manually every time. With big ships and inertia thrusters are important with the Cutter being the worst. But I land/depart it manually all the time without any issues or scraping against a Beluga going out while I am coming in. The Docking Computer can show you how to do it correctly for any ship a player flies. Then discard it if that is your play style. Great info especially if you are a Smuggler!

Regards
It part of the relentless campaign to dumb down games. Mail slot is to small simply because it might require a bit of skill to fly the biggest ships through it. Personally I shrink it by 1 or 2 percent and make it a real challenge.

An that where skill, practice, and persistence comes in, these use to be valued in gaming one.

In the smaller ships i have tried----sidey-upto a cobra -just a bit harder ina cobra lol-- you can barrel roll through the door way.. and in the hauler .
ALso try 'using' the door on the vertical line..( so the door 'appears' a tall thin door...) esp when a BIG ship is coming in as you are leaving..
Oh! just for fun, as you make 'final approach' into the door-way . try turning off the flight assist .spin ship so the ships'belly' is facing into the station..nice views as you fly through lol.

I've mastered "swishing" my Python through the docking slot.
any speed, from any direction. :D
So much fun. Until you flatten someone. Lol

I can sometimes do it in my Anaconda too.
