The Main Account Now Has 5179 Hours

It's feeling a need for a change.

It's in Colonia now. The big money, and happenings are in the bubble. As expected, prices are higher in Colonia, but total potential revenue is about the same, or less.

Recently, most of the convenient areas to explore from Colonia have been strip-mined, by the new discovery method. Now, a journey past the center is needed to find truly new areas, at least in my jaded opinion. That makes for a lot of travel time. Quote all the percentages you want. I will never pass Altnil or the other greats.

The excitement of progression has gone. Severe burnout has set in.

My alt account is in the late-midgame of progression. It has an engineered Python. It has an engineered explorer. It could just start traveling, but all discoveries would be under the alt account. It's probably not possible to merge the accounts, and their discovery tags. I can do that to a certain extent with third party apps, but it's not the same. I really miss Elite Galaxy Online. It summed the two accounts.

I've contemplated selling everything, and returning to the bubble. It's hard to give up six years of grind. That's the middle route. The alt account was very liberated by it's housecleaning.

The other method is a clean save, wiping out all progression, but returning me to the wonder of the early game. Since Frontier is unlikely to provide any content that I would be interested in until next year, that would occupy me. Hopefully.

Today is May Day. It's an appropriate day for a change. Must take a nap first...

The early game lasts about a week at best. You'll just have to do the engineer grind again. Not much else changes...
That's why there is the middle course of selling the assets, and simply moving.

All due respect to Ian Of Colonia, but the place is just like the bubble, now, but with pristine rings everywhere. Pity there aren't decent prices. Or, discounts.

I think the best thing about taking a break from ED is that when I come back I've lost any sentimental attachment to various ship/modules I've created so I just cull them mercilessly... which, admittedly, just creates a new pile of stored modules ready to fit to new ships that I'll inevitably buy.

But, yeah.
Not a fan of resetting my primary account.
It is.... me - in ED, at least.
It's the distance I've travelled, the things I've found, what I've done and what I've earned (in terms of features and credits).

I've got an alt-account and the whole "new start" thing was fun for about a week but then, after that, it's just a handy way to be in two different places at the same time.
It's certainly not worth resetting my primary account just to get that "new start" buzz again, IMO.

ED has always been a game that rewards players for creating their own content and that's still the best way to generate entertainment.
It's up to you to figure out what you want to do.
ED just provides us with some pretend spaceships to do it in.

Honestly at the number of hours you've logged I can't imagine what you haven't done 100 times over. Hell, I barely have 1/10 your gameplay time and already was staving off burnout by giving myself a ridiculous ruleset to play the game under.

Out of curiosity- what do you play on? PC? And if so, is it worth trying VR out if you don't already? I'll tell ya, if anything keeps my going in this game it's playing in VR.

Like you, I'm also up over 5000 hrs - the thing that's kept it constantly fresh & fun for me has been going 100% FA off, and getting into racing.
That way, just the flight model itself proves constantly challenging, and there's never any shortage of installations, stations and planet surfaces to go screaming around at high speeds :)

Fun is at your doorstep, no seriously :)

I got 2 active accounts, both Elite explorer and I would of had a 3rd by now if they hadn't screwed up exploring for me with the introduction of the FSS...
So I became an anarchist in the Colonia region, which is fun. Lots of stuff to do and learn with a great bunch of like minded pilots.

I do 2 NS jumps in my DBX (or if I really want to visit my favourite area 16 NS jumps) set to economy planning and will hit 95% (average) unexplored territory, there are plenty of untouched and unvisited systems around Colonia (even my efforts have barely touched the surface) if you jump at diagonals to the plane.

But, whatever you do will be your choice and I wish you well for it :)

There's a standing challenge Buckyball Racing Club event in Colonia, the Colonia Trophy Dash, if you want to try a race.
I'm always finding something to do but I will take a week away from the game if I'm feeling drained. I just can't stay away for too long.
There's always Raxxla and The Dark Wheel in need of investigating and there are expeditions in the Exploration subforum that might be interesting. Pick a destination and go!

Never understood why “selling everything”, “clearing the save” is the answer. So, you sell everything and purchase a monumental 1k hour grind to plow through. Isn’t it better to just keep playing.. but without the grind? Pick up an engineered ship and whoosh, off you go, towards stars, friends, old and new, without a worry in the world. The only reason for me to grind is to engage in endgame activities. But grind for the sake of grind? Idk, man, sounds like recipe for burnout.

I came back from a few month break in December to find a bunch of ships with combat builds I immediately wanted to get rid of (way too much fixed). Months later I've re-engineered many of them and started from scratch with some new ships, constantly tweaking things until they are at a state I'm happy with.

I definitely see an Elite break in my near future, and it wasn't until I read your post I realized I have actually progressively changed many of my ships back to the point they were at when I picked the game back up in December.

I guess when I next return from a break I'll scrap it all again and work my way back to preferring fixed weapons as I shake off the rust.

I can confirm, and am going through this on my alt after a reset this week. It's already becoming a chore not being able to access engineers etc. but the fact I can switch to my main account means that's ok. I really, really do not recommend wiping your main, you will likely regret it shortly after (I considered this several times before I just bought a second one, best decision).

Never do anything important without having a nap first. Solid advice.

The answer, for me at least, was that small ships don't really have a lot of purpose after you hit a certain point. If you go through all the reviews of smaller ships that you can find, they all say the same thing as to the value of smaller ships: they are cheap. But when you have billions of credits, what does it matter if a ship is 80,000 credits or 80,000,000 credits?

Restarting forces you into a position where small ships are relevant again, even if it's only for a short while. We get to experience having an actual use for them other than "I feel like flying a small ship today".

That's why I started a second account, anyhow.

the fun and excitement of pve died when the narrative did along with the side-stories. Now all you're left with is the unbalanced incomplete sandbox of a game and pvp.

No amount of restarting or willfully picking the weakest crap and the least paying missions/roles will change that. The game is just a bunch of people who are holding out hope that this will change or haven't gotten bored yet with pvp.

taking breaks just makes you more bitter each time you come back and find the same situation exists. It'd be nice if there was a known plan out of this mess but since there's not, it might be a good time to start up the steam store and start looking at what's been built in the last 5 years in the genre and see if some alternatives tick all your checkboxes better.

I beg to differ. I have 19 fully engineered ship, by a mile the most enjoyable are my Vipers. Which are regularly flown, in pvp, in VR exploration. In pvp specifically they still have their place (if you think long and hard enough and don't encounter anyone with a counter build, hehe). Anyway, I treasure my Viper more than a fully kitted pvp cutter and corvette, which stand there mostly gathering dust. I guess I don't need to play the progression game.. again
