I've got one, it's 0.2t, it's negligible as you say.Maybe, but the loss of jump range for a G5 lightweighted heatsink is… negligible. I’d think, anyway, so it wouldn’t really hurt to have one.

Slight different subject, but I've spent the last day travelling a couple of KLy's out of the Bubble and pushing the Mandalay hard by charging the FSD while finishing a scoop, and the highest I've managed to get the heat was 79%. Not Dolphin territory for sure. But no actual overheating yet, so I'm all good with it so far.
Seriously?
TBF I’ve not used it stock, but it’s rarely still scooping by the time the FSD timer is done and even when charging in the corona it’s nowhere near overheating. Yeah, it’s not as icy cold as the dolphin, but I’m still genuinely questioning the need for a heat sink.
It's very nice. I did a trip to a station 320k out in a fraction of the time needed before the SCO, and I didn't even need to look at the temperature.to me the most outstanding thing about the mandalay is hitting the tab button and using SCO. on my build the heat never went over 55% and i got to one of those 220,000 light second stations in no time. i was like OMG
can floor the SCO and it stops at 65% heat. I think it is capable around a million ls with only the "normal" tank. Once you floor it you can even release stick or mouse.Seriously?

It is ridiculously loud and has to be turned down for sure.I have to say that this ship is pretty much the perfect ship, for me. Beautiful to look at (especially with the ship kit) and the stats and handling are spot on. Bravo to all involved. However, if there's one single area of its design that irks me, it's the thruster sounds.
First off, the boost sound is almost offensively loud. I cringe every time I hit the afterburner. Does it really need to be that loud? In that respect, it kind of reminds me of the AspX thruster sounds which had to be toned down due to being way too loud. A 20-30% reduction in volume would be a definite improvement here. Maybe a tad more...
Secondly, the thruster sound when you throttle up or down. Initially, it doesn't seem too bad, and if you're not changing engine power a lot you'd probably think this an irrelevance. But if your performing a lot of speed changes, like trying to land on a rocky spot on a planet surface to grab a biological...boy, does that sound really start to grate.
Most of the ships thrusters (possibly barring the DBX's rusty trawler sound) are pretty innocuous, as they should be, and I rarely even consciously think about the sound of them as I fly about and land and take off. But the Mandalay's are way too 'in-yer-face' to be pleasant company after a while and, for me, start to rapidly outstay their welcome. I've even played with the Audio settings (changed from Normal to Full Range, dropped the sound effects volume and raise the voice volume to compensate) in an attempt to reduce the sound of them, and it helps slightly. Not completely though.
In all honesty, if the Mandalay had, for example, the same thruster and boost sounds that, say, the Challenger has, I would be a super happy bunny, because they're great, sound and volume-wise. Obviously, I realise that will never happen. But if you compare and contrast, you'll probably have a better idea of where I'm coming from on this.
Anyway, there we go. Thanks for reading, and thanks for the ship.
Cue loads of posts disagreeing with me...
P.S. Oh, and could you shift the fuel scooping HUD element up a bit higher. It's a rather low right now compared with other ships. Ta.
well it has to have some flaws, right? It is ridiculously loud and has to be turned down for sure.
Another thing that gets me is when you roll in Manda is has that weird... scratchy? sound that makes me wanna scream.
To be perfectly honest I have extremely ambivalent thoughts about Manda.well it has to have some flaws, right?![]()

sssshhhhh. We don't say stuff like that out loud.To be perfectly honest I have extremely ambivalent thoughts about Manda.
In think it should be nerfed. Overall. It's just an OP ship. Silly.
Don't worry, I plan an entire thread on the topic (not even joking, just didn't have the time to write it up yetsssshhhhh. We don't say stuff like that out loud.
I'm not terribly impressed with it
Meh
oh come on, you have to give Frontier one in the win columnDon't worry, I plan an entire thread on the topic (not even joking, just didn't have the time to write it up yet)
As I said, I have very ambivalent feelings. I want and don't want it to be nerfed at the same timeoh come on, you have to give Frontier one in the win column. We love our Mandalays, Frontier finally did something right. Right?
I maintain they pulled the wool over our eyes with "exploration" and "not a combat ship". In reality, it is the perfect multirole, and they designed it as such but didn't tell us.
At least, for balance, they didn't give it large hardpoints, the power is a bit stingy, and maybe the distro a bit small. If you want that, get a Krait.
I've been charging the FSD while in scoop range without any issues. (with g5 modules)I wish it ran just a bit cooler. Been spoiled by my Dolphin explorer. The Dolphins ability to charge FSD for a jump while still scooping and not even get close to overheating is nice.
A thing about it which is impressing me much more than it should really is how good the brakes are.I'm not terribly impressed with it
Meh
It's great for exobiology thanks to how quick it can stop.A thing about it which is impressing me much more than it should really is how good the brakes are.
I come in to a pad like I always have cut the throttle where I hope will get me stopped at the centre of the pad and it actually stops there instead of overshooting for such a quick seeming ship it is wonderful.
Yes I am looking forward to that when I head out again. It's great for exobiology thanks to how quick it can stop.
