The Mission Board - Single Server or not, its a flop.

Be what you want to be in Elite Dangerous - trader, explorer, bounty hunter, pirate, smuggler etc., but the Mission Board is not organized by profession, it is organized by faction.

The core structure of the Mission Board is an expression of the BGS, it is organized by faction, the types and numbers of each mission are dictated by the system and faction state at the time.

Whether or not you choose to pursue a profession, you will be forced to submit to the BGS. There might be 10 billion people in the system, but it is entirely possible that the only task available to a player is the massacre mission.

Clearly, there is a fundamental disconnect between what the game promises (be what you want to be), and the primary vehicle to allow the player to pursue that profession - the Mission Board.

The single server will reduce mission generation times, but the organizational structure is still going to be BGS /faction based.

Until there is a commitment by FDEV to organize the Mission Board by profession-related missions, and offer missions for all stated professions at every station, the game fails to meet its fundamental stated goal.

There are two things to unpack here.

1) No, you are not forced to submit to the BGS. You are allowed not to use board at all. Do as you will. Ohhh, you want to do lucrative missions for your role? Then you have to submit yes;
2) Scaling of number of missions is something I wish they improve, and I think no one wants to say no to that;

You are allowed to do whatever you want in this game. Just this game world has it's rules and cycles to whom you either submit or whine.

Idea is that you have to be creative, decisive and you have to change roles now and then if you want to maximize your profits. That's whole idea behind freelancer commander in this universe.

Yes.

Just like real-life, where I can turn up in, say, Kansas and demand a job in the fishing industry or go to Congo and insist on a career in Interior Design.

*sigh*

This.

Cubeo currently in a civil war. The missions I'm getting are just about all "Kill a bunch of our enemies", "Bring reactive armor" and "Bring non-lethal weapons" to both fighting factions. Imagine that. War happens, people need weapons and armor. In times of peace / boom they all seem to want gold (or some other odd metal). The mission board is always going to reflect what the (NPC) inhabitants need due to the situation going on. To me, working as intended (and as expected).

Disagree on just about every word.

You are a lone pilot seeking work from those able to provide it. Take your pick, or not. Someone else will be along soon who will take the mission.

Not completely.
Given you reached a certain PF ranking,
you are very well known and your services
are sought.

That way you can make your presence clear
and offer your renowned services to them.

Never said lucrative.

Said it makes no sense with populations of 10 billion people that there would be only a single mission type.

Said that the core statement of the game is not met by the mission system.

Read the post.

The mission server is a stability fix nothing more.

As for current missions it's not an issue for me, loads on offer and plenty of variety.

There is an issue that the board generates too many massacre missions during war - now that they no longer stack and are huge, you need two or three per faction at most. And you usually get ten or twenty, which is pointless.

Other than that the board is fairly state-independent. Missions get relabelled according to the current BGS state (and may sometimes change the type of commodity involved, for cargo missions), but other than War it has little effect on the types of missions available. (Lockdown shuts down the boards at affected stations, but a faction in Lockdown doesn't put out that different missions at other stations)

...

But why single out missions? Non-mission trade can be significantly affected by the BGS depending on what you're selling (very significantly so for some mined goods, and other famous examples) - or temporarily suspended entirely for Lockdown. People wanting lots of high-end NPCs to fight need Civil Unrest or Lockdown for the high-threat pirate POIs ... or Wars for the CZs.

Every profession (well, maybe not exploration) is affected by the BGS state of the system - that's the point of the BGS, to not have a static galaxy. I'd rather see more differentiation on the mission board between the non-War states, too - not less!

So no one eats, smuggles, bounty hunts, does drugs, etc. during a civil war. Makes no sense.

Ya, that 10 billion is irrelevant really - you are not looking for work from the general population, or corporations based on the planet surface. You are looking for work from small/medium political factions who are all fighting with each other for control of a station/system. Factions who will be offering missions based on their current state and place relative to other factions - which makes perfect sense in the context of who we are within the galaxy.

The Aegis Vanguard and Aegis Acropolis Megaships offer an alternative to the usual Mission Boards. The Aegis ships give out primarily source missions and a small number of kill goid missions. When allied, the source missions can be very lucrative and you can also build up Federal and Empire Naval ranks.

What really needs to be done is to increase combat pay so that it is on par with that of trade and exploration.
