The New AI is Too Good! I'm back in an Cobra After Loosing Python 3 Times in 3 Days!

Lost my Python three times in as many days in fights with AI Pythons with backup. Now I am running from fights in a cobra hoping to find a station close by with an Asp Explorer. Need to earn enough credits to take the Python back out of the hanger. Went from enjoying the game to evading interdictions and running from everything.

Today i attacked wing of 3 pythons. Killed everyone without using single shield-cell-bank because AI is still braindead.
AI was braindead and now it is better armed braindead...
i'm flying in python for 110 milions. Even in FDL for 75 milions i can kill 3 anaconds in SSS...
Maybe that was commander with 2 vipers? ;)

If this were an offline game, everyone could choose their own preferred difficulty level, and no one would have a problem (i.e. problem with the game being too easy / too difficult OR problem with someone else playing at their preferred difficulty level).

Also, how and why everyone plays is their own reason.

My opinion is that the AI definitely needed a boost, yes, but now they too often fly in wings, which aren't easily available to players. Heck, they are always UNAVAILABLE to solo players. This in turn means some fights are simply near-impossible, which isn't really my idea of fun. Yes, "my" idea. All is subjective at this point.

Limit the NPC wings (i.e. make them fly alone more often) OR allow us to create our own NPC wings!

Or just, you know, RUN :)

NPC wingmen is needed though, I hope they are coming (after NPC dialogs), sometime soon.

I never directly pointed out to him. It's just a general observation of how gamers treat ideas of gameplay balance, good or bad gameplay, etc.

There's always someone complaining because reasons.

Perhaps make that clearer in the way you post, because it isn't how it read. Maybe a language thing *shrug*

I don't mean "near-impossible to DEAL with", I mean "near-impossible to destroy", which some people like to do. Again, just because you like a challenge, doesn't mean everyone else does.

I may be a weirdo, but I really LIKED how the game was pre-1.3, difficulty wise. Get enough enemies shooting at you in a CZ and you still had to bail out. RES were a bit too easy, but things got really fun and interesting as soon as you were hostile to the local pirate faction, so all was good. And finally, given how little time I had to play Elite, this was a perfect way to "unwind" for me after a days work. Again, subjective feelings, I know. I don't wish to dictate how anyone else should play their game, but at this time it feels the other way - someone has dictated how I should play my game, and it's equally as wrong.

And once more, this wouldn't be a problem at all if we got an off-line game. And consider how bloody simplistic this "background simulation" is (I think there's a reason the abbreviation for it is ""), there's no reason why this game SHOULDN'T be offline... :-/

I wouldn't mind if the AI were quite a bit harder to fight than they are in 1.3, and harder to run away with.
A bit like in the 1984 Elite...

In ED, of course I can go into a Strong Signal if I want a real challenge (and a slim chance to win), but I never *get* challenged unless I want to.

"I enjoyed game while blasting AI to pieces and then complaining on forums how it's too easy or too boring...now AI blasts me to pieces and I am still complaining on forums how it is too hard."

This is how it sounds to me now.

Mate, all you do on this forum is try to shout down anyone who says anything about the game. Do you know how sound to everyone else?

My Python is maxed out with A rated shields, power plant, power distribution etc and three A class shield boosters... I use two medium pulse lasers two large pulse lasers and one large beam laser. I've taken on some pretty big AI ships with this load-out namely Authority Anacondas and walked away having to replace just my shield cell banks. Love the Python and wouldn't change it for anything other than an Anaconda. Sometimes it is fun though just to buy a cobra or a sidewinder, their manoeuvrability takes some beating, just don't crash into a Python or a Conda or your shields are dust. Although at around 5.000.000cr insurance claim depending on how well fitted out your Python is it's quite a lot to loose three times in a row so I understand why you've gone back to the smaller ships, at least your repair bills a cheaper.

Elite and Dangerous are rankings. I don't mind the buffed (improved is a subjective term) AI but I don't consider that it's "living up to" the moniker of Elite or Dangerous. You always have the option to just bolt. There's nothing dangerous about it, just risky. Elite Risky would be more appropriate, or maybe even Whack-a-Rep: Risky

Nerf? No way! I'm just getting started on the high ranks! ;) Loads more to come! :)

Yeah, great... now if they only wouldn't gang up so often (which makes fights really one sided), or we got our own NPC wingmen, or I dunno, there was a damn difficulty slider or something. :-/

I've noticed the improvements but I'd hardly say they were too hard. Took out a Sidewinder (showing the game to a mate, and letting him play) kitted it out fully etc. I blew up a Dangerous Adder and a Deadly Python before suffering too much hull damage. The Pythons mates took care of the rest of the hull though. My mate, never have played any flight sim, not used joysticks for over 10 years never mind a X52 blasted a couple of ships too (a nice 17.5 and 27.5 bounty on each -Cheers Iain!)

If a novice to the game can do it, I'd have to question the skill of the OP in the pilots seat... :D

I had 2 size 3 Laser Turrets, 2 size 2 Gimbaled multi-cannons, 1 size 3 Gimbaled cannon. A6 Shield Booster and C grade shields. I got the other Pythons down to less than 30% every time, but it always seems like my shields would go out about the same time. Don't understand why the other Python could take everything I was flinging at them with shields down while my ship would get torn to pieces. Last Python rammed me when I got him down to 2%.

Pip managment. I did notice the NPCs are far better with this....its time to up your game imo....and I speak for myself also.

*sigh*

The worst thing? I think the reason people really though the AI was "dumb" before wasn't due to their piloting skills (at least, that wasn't apparent)... It was their "meta-behaviour". Like unshielded Sidewinders flying right in front of armed Pythons asking for cargo, that sort of thing. And THAT sort of thing still hasn't been resolved. So the AI might fight like they were operated by Skynet itself, but they'll still appear dumb with every chat message they send... :-/

Harder to run away from... ;) Yeah, I can oblige that request. :)
Only if you restrict that to Deadly/Elite NPCs, and to some exten to Dangerous ones , please! We who have other life than just E: D would like to be able to pick our fights (or at least flee from ones that are forced on us) most of the time.

Thanks for understanding. ;)

I too am enjoying the ai. They are still wweaker than a human but at least now there is a decision to make in some furballs and sometimes the only option is leg it. This is good imo.

I do agree however that the shieldless pirates and the solo eagles interdiction a python needs to stop. The ai defo could be stronger in its decision making in that front
