There is no option for ........NO guilds but have Player owned stations.
.
buy station parts and go off and build it where ever you like in the galaxy.
.
You could do a C.G. each month for a different part :D

For those interested in the social aspects of the game, there's scope for huge improvement. Friends lists are cumbersome and indivisible, wings are ad hoc only (not that this is a bad thing), etc. These are all well-documented. Whether guilds are the answer, I'm not sure. If that's what you want to call a better social grouping toolset, then fine. Integration of that with the minor faction system would also be acceptable; it's something that players have effectively been doing for a while now.

As to player-owned stations, I fail to see the point. For it to be anything other than a superficial label, Frontier would have to implement a whole new set of game mechanics just for the running of a station, and that effort (IMO) is better directed elsewhere.

I be lovin' your posts.

Which made a shift towards "yes" after being linked on reddit by the way. How unexpected :)

Yeah, I'd love to see an open poll with usernames and join dates alongside. ;) Once you get a reasonable sample, polls don't usually flip like this and I seriously doubt any of the arguments in the thread (done to death as they are) have changed anyone's minds.

I'd actually be okay with guilds if all it included was guild management tools, a guild tag, and a guild chat channel. And that the tags had a toggle (turned off by default to keep the game experience running as it is for the uncaring masses.)

Trouble is, very few people are asking for that, and that alone. You are actually in a very small minority if that alone would satisfy you.

Yeah, if it all ever only revolved around this set of features, I don't think we'd have had all these long debates in the first place. Instead, basically as soon as the word "guild" is dropped on these (and other) forums, "station ownership" is mentioned in the same or the following sentence.

So here is my ad hoc proposal for a guild feature that might work in a way that is yields no more influence over the game and other players as the current status quo, while still satisfying the call for guild management tools and some sense of guild recognition:

  • 2 or more players can form a guild (may actually be called differently in an actual implementation).
  • A player can only ever be in a single guild (much easier to implement and deal with, both for FD and the players, than a multi-guild system).
  • A guild must choose a unique name and a short-hand tag (no more than 4 letters). The tag is shown in front of any member's name (e.g. "SPQR CMDR Gaius Iulius Caesar"), the full guild name only in the details in the contact list (e.g. "Senatus Populusque Romanus").
  • Players can enable and disable the display of guild tags globally.
  • A guild has a single, global text and voice channel that only members can access. (This is an extension of the wings comms mechanic.)
  • A guild has a single leader, who may appoint officers who also have the right to invite or kick members. The leader can pass on leadership to any member at any time. Leadership conveys no benefits other than invite/kick rights and the right to appoint (or demote) officers. (No custom ranks, no multi-leader system, no voting system etc., keep the technical implementation as simple as possible.)
  • Fellow guild members are shown in a distinct colour on the scanner, and shown on the galaxy map.(This is again an extension of the wings mechanic.)

I'd say if it would be no more than that, I would have no objections to that, because the same thing indeed basically already exists, just with out-of-game tools (forums, Teamspeak etc.), so these are all just convenience and quality-of-life features.

On the flip side, there are a bunch of Reddit users who don't frequent the forums - frequently because of the attitude of the users here. Maybe some of those wanted to weigh in...

Either way, the result is going to be just as valid as the previous poll (which is - not at all representative of the user base).

There have been many zero day accounts today, most of which have had no activity but, guess what, vote on this poll.

ETA - another 10 accounts as I typed the above

Sign me up. That's exactly what I want.

It's all part of the meta game - this is being influenced by exterior groups with ulterior motives.
