I can just imagine David Braben, sitting on his osmium throne in the Dev Owned station, when an FD staffer brings him the news "Sir, the forumers have voted for Guilds, the people have spoken!"

DB cups his chin and ponders a moment, then bellows "MB - bring me my guild-crushing ban hammer!" :D

Phaedryn, you are not alone. Lurking on the forums, read reddit, never made a account before today. But I am a real player, who paid money, and my opinion should count as well as anyone else who paid for this game.

Anyhoo, I like seeing and reading all of these constructive comments. Keep em coming!

Welcome Darkfalconz to the ED forum. May your questions be answered promptly, and your debates be fruitful, and your polls be in your favour.

There ya go then! Seems you're all doing fine without official in-game support.

CASE CLOSED! NEXT TOPIC OF CONTENTION PLEASE!

;)

As I said several pages ago, the good guilds, those that do not need in-game features are already here and having fun in their own way. I have still to find a game that really brings something to the table for guilds and keeps those that need pandering to happy - it's always MORE! MORE! MORE!

When all you really need is TS and a forum!

PS for the record... I have been even more ranty than normal today.... call it a bad night sleep. I hope I have not offended anyone here (even if they did just sign up from reddit never to return again)

no offence to anyone meant :) When it comes to ED I am a little over invested i guess (aka raving fanboy who dreams of the DDA ;) )

fly safe CMDRs

I remember the old debates on this and while I'm against guilds as they are in other games as I think it would ruin the traditional Elite universe feel that I hoped the game would retain, I did have an idea for player owned stations. However, Frontier have clearly developed how the Factions and Powers interact with the universe in such a way that the only way players can own any territory is to become a 'power'. They would then have to expand their turf in the same way that current powers do. That way the game mechanics can help prevent abuse. Perhaps to be renowned enough that anyone would follow you, you'd have to be "Elite" in at least one of the categories. So if you were a trader, you'd be one of the trade based expansion powers. etc etc

Besides everything else - I cannot, never ever, play a game where the possibility exists for "mur|)3r-L33tz kr3w kek" to become a station's authorized name, in-game. Just... Just, oh gods, no. Flat out no.

Ditto.

I play this game to pretend I am some sort of intergalactic smuggling na'er do well in a binge of rampant escapism because my actual real life is such a horrific tragedy. Having more "gamey" elements to it like player own stations will destroy the entire point of Elite for me.

What would be nice is more interactive factions, and more benefits from being allied to a faction. Rather than just getting better jobs at an allied station maybe you'd get more support if jumped in their system, or maybe you'd get escorted through the system if you were highly thought of. Something like that. But as part of the game as a roleplay element, not a gamey guild.

On a serious note, please stick with the guilds and player owned content in this thread. I dread to think what would happen if we had to merge this into the Open v Solo threadnaught.

It would form a forum singularity, with all posters inevitably being sucked into that thread and the posts would go on and on in circles seemingly forever for those watching, but forum death would be instant for those in the thread.

I voted no to guilds or player owned stations. Whilst there are some really great players in the game (I met 150 of them at Lavecon) I don't want my freedom to move around the galaxy or to blaze my own trail as an insignificant pilot, which is what Elite is all about, affected by some idiot goon squad.

I am however in favour of better communication tools (e.g. group chat), however that wasn't included on the poll.

Maybe Frontier should release a new subscription based, so using servers instead of P2P, Elite based game called "Elite: Guild Wars". It could use a different instance of the Galaxy to the current Elite: Dangerous so it doesn't affect players that don't want to have anything to do with Guilds. It could also be entirely open (no solo mode). The subscription could also help fund Elite: Dangerous as well as itself.

You might say "but that would split the community" but I can guarantee that if you bought guilds and player owned stations into Elite: Dangerous into you would split the community anyway as people would limit themselves to solo/group or even worse, stop playing altogether.

If guilds and player owned stations were implemented I can guarantee that I would vacate open to Mobius or Solo.

I'd rather that the devs concentrate of powerplay in the current game and press on with addon expansions for the not TOO distant future. Powerplay needs some personal ship identification to be more guild like. But otherwise leave it alone.

This thread keeps popping up. I can not help but to think "50 no's and a yes is still a yes".

As for me one last time - No

I will no longer entertain further inquires delving into the mater.
You are welcome for my time.

Im seriously baffled about the fact that you guys keep asking for this. This game is not even able to connect 2 players everytime and all the content is generated on my client. And you want guilds? haha thats not possible.

I agree i am biased......... (though I think/hope I have not gone so far as to call guildies social rejects ;) ) the point is however I bought a game which actively advertised NO to guilds. Can you not see how many of us think that to implement them now would be a bait and switch?. I actively do NOT play EVE and other games which are heavily influenced by guilds....... I DID back SC knowing it will have them and will never demand their removal.... but then I got it mainly for S42 which will be guild free.

I do my homework on games and back based on what the devs say........ I have actively not bought games due to guilds, many actively bought ED due to the promise of a LACK of them. To just with the wave of a hand say, well that was a little naive now wasn’t it? seems a little disingenuous to me.

OTOH am I naive however? well put it this way... I did buy Alien Colonial marines because I trusted the guff Randy Pitchford said about it as well as the vertical slice of "live" gameplay shown.... but that is one for Jimquisition!. But fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice..... put it this way, i will buying all my next games from them from the bargain bin now, under my devs never to be trusted pile.

Like this guy I bought in to ED principally because I do not want to play a guild orientated game.

It isn't because I am anti guild or think anything untoward about the people that enjoy such games (I have friends who are heavily in to WoW and such) but I just don't want to play guild based games myself.
I loved the idea of ED because it had no guilds. It has no area's you can't visit just because another bunch of CMDR's think they own it. Basically another CMDR can aid you or kill you (or maybe just say "HI") in any given encounter but he could have no long term influence over how you enjoy the game, such as deny you access to a space station or system.

The Only way that guilds could really work without endangering the enjoyment for those who are not interested is to have it totally separate - Solo, Open, Guilds. as I am sure has already been suggested.

Wow - Just Wow
Point proven I just double checked my first post, please note the time stamp. in the time it took me to read my last post checking for errors - There have been another dozen Votes for Guilds. Padding anyone - my trust on your polling has just been relegated to zero. Are you the same one that said Cameron would loose by a landslide.

Still no, doesn't matter how many polls are run or how many time this question is asked.

The MAJORITY of the player base belong to neither reddit nor the official ED forum, let alone those that can't be bothered in polls (the majority of players (I did a poll)). So any claims of % for any thing are plain ridiculous and indicate absolutely nothing.

To balance the voting, I didn't bother voting in this poll.

There should be an option for no guilds but limited player owned stations.
Having a little asteroid base with parking spots that is in your own instance (and maybe that of your wing) sounds totally fine to me.
