The New Mining is Boring

... when you boost around a ring hot spot for 20 minutes looking for the next core asteroid! And I'm not talking about when you're a noob and don't understand how to spot cores with the PWS (bad times). It usually takes me 1-2 minutes to find the next one, and sometimes up to 5 minutes, which can be a bit tedious. But sometimes it can take 10, 15, 20 minutes or more. I've literally fallen asleep more than once with the new mining, and that's something I never did with the old mining. It's not good when your exciting action video game puts you to sleep - although it can be exciting to wake up while boosting toward a suspected core 'roid.

I don't know if there's a problem with the RNG :)x) or what, but I often have 4-5 'roids within a stone's throw of each other, and then other times, like this morning, it took over 20 minutes of boosting at 500M/s to come across the next. This is not fun game play. I wouldn't mind it in some random un-scanned ring, but in a hot spot, I think FD should ensure that mining is a fun activity all the time (if you enjoy that sort of thing).

I generally enjoy the new mining, although I quickly abandoned all forms except core mining for now. I'm looking forward to missions that will force me to use the other tools.

I’m actually really enjoying it! The “gold rush” was too good to pass up, so I built the “Ursula Miner” Anaconda and headed out into the black.

Two days later, I’m a billionaire and Elite in trading. Even though the payout was obviously huge, I felt like I’d really earned it- scanning a system, looking for gas giants, examining the rings, then hunting for explodable rocks.

It was a great experience and I couldn’t stop once I’d started!

You do know you are welcome to simply not use any of the new mining methods, or pick only one mining method, or any combination thereof.

Choices - some people just aren't compatible.

Unfortunately I'm finding the "Old" mining boring. I actually enjoy simpler mining with the tried and true lasers, but it's the RNG aspect that drives me nuts. I thought the new DSS probes and corresponding hotspots would fix this, but ironically I was getting better yields before the update when there were no "hotspots" to mine!

Which makes me wonder, are the goodies listed in the hotspots only accessible using the new mining tools, like this deep core mining? What about things like Painite and LTDs that existed before the update?

Anyway, sure would be nice if a "hotspot" for LTDs actually had LTDs...

So, your dopamine drip needs to be set around every 3 minutes, otherwise something becomes tedious?

Additionally, you have deliberately put yourself in that position by limiting your mining options to just one type? That's somehow Frontier's fault?

I mean... I know I can be an Ä$$hÄT sometimes... but come again? Try saying "Thank you for a step in the right direction" Even I did that.

I will concede that they have the opportunity to improve, but it's a fine start.

You mean... mining missions?

I agree completely.

The actual mining mechanics are fun, when the servers are actually up long enough. But just flying and pressing the scan button is tedious.

You can still use old system, and be pleasantly surprised when you run into a yellow rock.

I quite like the new mining but I do find the pulse wave scanner to be lacking, hope it can be engineered or tuned to better differentiate for whatever deposits and materials you are searching for.

With a bit of practice the pulse wave scanner allows to identify core roids very reliably. It's probably not meant to give us detailled information about what a roid actually contains.

I have only one complaint to make about the new means of mining,

the new mining tools do not adapt at all to asteroids that turns on themselves, it is particularly annoying especially since there are few asteroids that can be exploded..

with the small mining laser this is no problem .. but with the seismic loads I spend my time getting back in the right axes.. he forces him to constantly follow the movement of the asteroid.

I believe I am getting the hang of it, what I can't seem to resolve (or haven't learnt yet) is how to identify core roids at a reasonable distance and that is causing me to zigzag around the ring an awful lot which in turn becomes quite dull after a while. Any pointers welcome...

Six abrasion blasters on the Corvette certainly cleans things up after a good yield :) and the graphical effects of the seismic charge explosion is outstanding

Dude, it's a boring game. It's the kind of game that's ideal if you're on the sofa with a hangover. Slow paced and not too challenging. It has a kind of therapeutic effect..but it's a seriously boring, repetitive game.
