The number of backers is going to explode after E3 ?

I can't login there even though i bought premiumBeta in the shop one week ago.

I think this is only for people having pledged anything before December 9th(or close to that), this was before alpha started when some of the KS bonuses were still available. since then, if you are a "new commer" to ED, you should only be able to access the store.

Correct. It was to manage your Kickstarter pledge (and any further funds added) before the store came online.

High cost will still keep a lot of users away....probably a good thing too ...let all the bugs and glitches get worked out.

Totally agree with this. Although the game so far is good the high rate of CTD's would flood the forums with CTD threads even more then it currently is.

Maybe it will depend on what build they are showing off at E3 and what new features it has. To attract americans preferably something flashy, and maybe a ship with lot's of guns :p

Kerrash mentioned that he could test a new build there, so we'll see if they release it next week maybe.

This is the latest graph (no intermediate numbers of last week, sorry)

Strange huge spike there at the latter part. Did I miss a lot of advertising?

yep... I can see that.

I've paid for Premium Beta but can't log into the backers section of the website. Is it only for those who backed during the Kickstarter phase?

The first "knee" happened when Alpha 4 was released and flooded our youtubes. The second increase happened when Premium Beta officially started. Again, even more youtube videos and media coverage, leading to increased growth of sales.

I doubt the game would attract any of those.
Really if you watch Elite objectively, it can be kind of dull at times, it's not an action game, just a game where action can occur. But even the dull moments are interesting to some players because it's more than just about what you see.
The kids who it will attract are those interested in astronomy and science, and those with a decent attention span and patience.

I can see potential employers in the future asking their interviewees, not if they have a Farcebook account, but if they played Elite ;)

ED is getting quite a bit of mention over at the SC forums. Many people are unhappy with the Arena Commander flight model and ED is being mentioned as an example of how the AC flight model could be improved.

Interesting question OP.

The buy-in, for anyone who wants to play NOW at least, is still fairly high. This suggests that only fairly dedicated fans of Elite and the genre would be spending that amount - at least to me. Equally though, such fans will have been aware of Elite Dangerous for quite some time you'd imagine.

So, E3 will doubtless create some additional buzz - though I wonder if people who hide under rocks for years at a time actually attend E3 :) What I mean is, ED won't be news to most, I'd imagine.

I guess we might see a boost in forum numbers as more people actively follow the development, plus a fair few pre-orders might result. I'd not expect a huge jump in Premium Beta players though.

The thing is though, I can imagine ED looks AMAZING when shown being played on a big screen. There is already a fair bit of game there, but is it enough for those who really just want to play, rather than help test?

Scoob.

Yes the old store is linked to kickstarter.
