Makes me think that they announced today the stop of the manufacture of the Airbus A380.

Yeah, none of the airlines want to use it anymore due to fuel efficiency.

It's more complicated, it and the 747 were made for the hub and Spoke model (you have a main outpost for intercontinental flights that then connects other destinations) but with ever increasing ETOPS ratings and the advent of medium/small long range airplanes, it's going away. The future will rely on the A350 and the 787.
