Literally it means the tree has lots of bumps on it.
In this context it describes something as excellent and horrible at the same time.

It's surfer slang for difficult or dangerous manoeuvres or conditions involved in surfing.Riding the tube,for instance.However,in this context i think it means rough and twisted.
