General / Off-Topic The Odd Thread

Well, I'm intrigued. I haven't really played any ASCII games since Nethack. Might take a look at it one day. :)

Actually, Dwarf Fortress is not only the most complex construction and management simulation ever created until now (I like to compare gameplay to Dungeon Keeper), you can also play it as a rogue-like.

If you lost a Fortress for example, you can still start a new Fortress in the same world - or you start it up as a Rogue-like and revisit your old fortress to watch the sad remains of your last try ( and loot the heck out of it [hehe] ) Even as RPG this game has already more to offer than pretty much any AAA-title you can find, although it's still considered to be in Beta stage.

HEHH!
Which one is you? :D

I can tell. HC.

To hell with casual gamers and blasted idiots thinking to pick up the easy targets (other players) is fun.
Losers and griefers.

I actually am not a hardcore player at all. But Dwarf Fortress is so unique in every aspect I enjoy it a lot. Even though I only play really easy embarks, the game still has an astonishing difficulty.

The-complete-and-utter-newby-tutorial-for-dwarf-fortress-part-1(you'll need this, DF has a learning curve that makes EVE seem like Tetris)

I laughed at this... then I tried to play and stopped at the wall of a learning curve and gasped in awe

Aye... Quick to learn hard to master. :D Games whom stand the test of time are like that. I never been played with dwarf fortress, but the same goes to Minecraft. Seemingly easy and stupid, until you really start to dig yourself in.

After that? :D
