Honestly, i like the old scool rap more, than the pop trash comes out from the water sink in these days. Same old, same old... When a revolution wins?
Same going to happen with South park. As it's style became more popular, his kind of thinking, is became less and less deep more and more shrill, and vulgar without anything to say. and in the end? Is going to drown in junky hokum parade. just like the baroque turned into rococo.

The old and best ones whom still holding out like Cypress Hill or Eminem, with others are still good. But the rest of it? THX but no THX!

Yeah, I can relate, I liked how in the old days, Hip-Hop/Gangsta Rap told stories over creative beats.
Not just a loop, but with some neat baseline with some melody and fair bit of scratching of vinyl in between.

Meanwhile in Australia, we still have quite a few decent Hip-Hop (-not Gangsta Rap) artists.
Artists like The Funkoars (A Clockwork Purple, Mad As Hell), Hilltop Hoods (Powder The Monkey, Cosby Sweater),
Phrase (Clockwork, Talk With Force) all have good storytelling in their songs, although these days a lot of the songs are
starting to sound more like Pop (without much of the storytelling) than Hip-Hop.
The lyrics are considered "vulgar" by some people, but we consider it more of like "Aussie Slang". It's not a hostile
language, for example we use some "nasty" words to describe people close to us and we don't offend/get offended by it.

One of the better storyteller songs (a clean one) and a song I will call "Fuel Scoop Song" by Hilltop Hoods:
