If for no other reason than the delay between light being received by the eyes, transmitted along the optic nerve and then being cognised by the brain/mind.

If you move your eyes from one side to another, you effectively go blind for the duration of the whole process as the iris shifts and refocuses. The brain simply puts up a placeholder image instead.
Also - you can see your nose, 100% of the time. There. Now you can't unsee it.
