Trying out my new (regrettably still un-engineered) Phantom, with a grand tour of all the Generation ships (Part 1), starting with the Achlys (cos I've never done them before, so why not?);

Stay tuned for Part 2, wherein we continue alphabetically and finish of the rest of the A's.

Some of journey images around the bubble, exept the first one.

Time for a nap
20200903122246_1.jpg

Was a fun one, I had no idea until I drove over it! And I have to try one where the gas came out at high speed. And before I knew ... I was in orbid.
And my buggie was destroyed on the way down ... snif snif

Part 2 of my Generation ship tour;

Generation ship Artemis (4).jpg

I'm suddenly reminded of the Lexx for some reason...

Generation ship Atlas (1).jpg
Generation ship Atlas (2).jpg

^This one was my first sight of it as I dropped out of SC. Thought at first it was next to a planet that I'd somehow missed on the scan, until I realized it was the heatshield.
Generation ship Atlas (3).jpg
Generation ship Atlas (4).jpg

It's interesting seeing the different configurations so far, and looking at these two I can see now why the Achlys life support probably failed, it seems someone installed a bunch of shipping containers rather than, yuno, arboretums!

Launching yourself off a geyser is the easy part - you can land safely from it if you keep your self oriented right and judiciously apply the thrusters for braking. Keep practicing, the height doesn't count if you don't land in one piece ;)

^Some close flying through the rings to test my ships newly upgraded dirty drives.

Generation ship Epimetheus (5).jpg

Both of these ones are kinda isolated from everything, so hard to get good scenic shots. The modularity of the gen ships can still be seen, especially with the Epimetheus, which appears to have larger gaps between its ring sections, with cargo containers spaced between, rather than all clumped together in one mass. I wonder if the designers were deliberately trying out different combinations or were just bolting together whatever and wherever? Didn't do any of their crews any good either way mind..

My plan was to go from the bobble to the edge of the galaxy. But my plan was slightly different.

And as last a blackhole, Perseus Null Sector
Went straight to the center twice, first time I got kicked out, second time I got the feeling I was in the blackhole. This time the fsd popped out.
And it's a good thing that there is a heatsink, otherwise I would have had a lot of damage!

Generation ship tour (part 4). Today we go to some pretty dark places (as in, they're quite distant, and there's not much light. Also everyone's dead, because gen ships)...
anyway!

Generation ship Hyperion (1).jpg
Generation ship Hyperion (2).jpg
Generation ship Hyperion (3).jpg
Not much to say on that one really, other than it seems they all killed themselves for basically no reason because sure why not? (possibly a psychic kid, who knows?!) however, a funny thing happened on the way to the Lycaon;

359320_screenshots_20200921212038_1.jpg

Found an NSP, when suddenly, anomalies! First one I ever encountered.
359320_screenshots_20200921212041_1.jpg

Well... that's a bit alarming.
359320_screenshots_20200921212345_1.jpg

Mmmm, shiney!
Wonder what happens if I get close again?
359320_screenshots_20200921212602_1.jpg
359320_screenshots_20200921212618_1.jpg

I tried shooting it with a mining laser, didn't seem to do anything. Then it got angry when I got close. I'll leave you be now weird space anomaly.

Oh yeah there was also a generation ship or something;
Generation ship Lycaon (1).jpg
Generation ship Lycaon (2).jpg

He's apparently a long thin boy, probably the simplest design yet. Also it's black as hell out here, can't hardly see a damn thing. And everyone's still dead Dave.

Generation ship tour (part 5). This time involving significantly more light!

Generation ship Odysseus (2).jpg
Generation ship Odysseus (4).jpg
Generation ship Odysseus (3).jpg

Hell of a parking job on this one, right between a binary pair, right on the lip of a stars orbit.
Generation ship Odysseus (5).jpg

I can only assume it coasted to a stop once it got caught in the gravity well of both bodies.
Generation ship Odysseus (1).jpg

Interesting, I don't think we've seen this configuration yet, normally the arboretums are mounted on the rotating drum sections, so I duno how they're generating gravity to make sure stuff grows upright here.

Oh and it's another virus ridden deathtrap, lovely. That's two in a row now, I'm sure that won't be a problem for anybody in the future. Moving on...

Man, this one was a long way out, and honestly there's not much to see, cos we're back in darkness again.
Generation ship Phanes (3).jpg

Not pictured: The intended destination
Generation ship Phanes (4).jpg

Apparently both of these ships had issues with their leaders being dictators and liars and independently decided to just keep on going forever for basically no reason until things fell apart. Great plans everyone!
Generation ship Phanes (1).jpg

Hmm, why am I suddenly reminded of the Lexx? It's probably just coincidence.

Got a few screenshots from high above the galactic plane.

359320_20200926084459_1.jpg

2000lys above the DSSA carrier Ijon Tichys in the Vulcan Gate galactic region, reached by the ship's own power.

359320_20200615191149_1.jpg

This is much higher up, closer to the galactic bulge but the route up there was carrier assisted by the DSSA Callisto on our way to the Arcadian Stream galactic sector.
