Ships The only ship for which I'd abandon my beloved Clipper!

I just hope it will be viable for exploration. And at least all the Senator Loren news point in that direction.
Then I could finally get rid of my Asp. I'm really no fan of the Lakon design...

True. I like ASP, and in my opinion this ship looks good, however I am not a fan of crane-style Lakon cabins too. It will be good to have a choice with similar purpose ships but in other design.

It's a medium multipurpose ship so it will be closer to cobra than vulture. Probably better agility and jump range, than cobra. I reckon it will cost around 2M credits.

The fact that it looks so good is enough for me to buy it when it comes out. :p

I have hope not, we want here good, not cheap and poor starter ship. But, we will see everything in next week ;).

It would be cool if it had the firepower of a Vulture, the boost speed of a Cobra, the cargo space of a T6, the jump range of an Asp, and the maneuverability of an Eagle.

The cost being around 15 million + the imperial rank.

Also a coaxial pony in every pylon.

Speculation nearly over:

Finally, as a sneak peek on one of the two new ships, the base Imperial Courier is a reasonably quick ship (Speed 277) with a modest jump distance of 7.81 light years. It costs just over twice as much as the Lakon Type 6. It has three medium hardpoints with 4 utility hardpoints and as standard 12 tonnes cargo capacity.

Thanks!

Michael

Had hoped for a faster ship. That's bad.
Looks like a big eagle. Which is good.
But I'll try it for sure!!

Ack - thats terrible news for explorers. That gorgeous cockpit crippled by the jump range of a sidewinder. Dagnammit!

Yey, courier, my bad. It has higher normal space speed, so it can dock faster. That must compensate for trippling the number of jumps due to having only a hopping drive instead of a jump drive.

My enthusiasm for this ship was killed badly with the news of so severely limited jump range.

Well considering that the listed speed for the Cobra is 280, is barely slower. It all depends on the expansion slots. As someone else said, the Courier seems to fill a gap between the Cobra and the Asp/Vulture, and personally I like that. I currently fly and A-kitted Asp for battle and cargo, but I would be happy to "downgrade" to a lighter ship which still retains upgrade potential - I actually like the handling of the Cobra most of all, but I don't use it because it just can't stand up to higher level ships.
Based on this, it's also my speculation that the Diamondback will fill the gap between the Asp/Vulture and the Clipper. It may be indeed the next best "bang for your buck" ship (award that I currently attribute to the Asp)

From all we know, it'd be a significant downgrade compared to the Cobra.

What we know:
- the price will be like 8 times of the Cobra.
- depending on your weapon choice, you might have a tiny bit more of firepower than the Cobra, but based on the remaining info, the power distributor probably will limit it and cut it down to Cobra size.
- the speed will be a little lower than of the Cobra
- we'll have two more utility slots than the Cobra. That's the only positive i actually see.
- jump range will be significally lower than the Cobra. For something considered a "courier", so being supposed to deliver something to a remote place quickly, that's quite a letdown.

What we can estimate from the cargo size statement, assuming that the ships layout matches the other ships we have up to now:
- Top modules will be in the same ballpark as the Cobra, so we won't have exceptional high power or shields.

What we have no idea about:
- the actual number of compartments. There is hope that we might have a good number of small compartments for scanners, fuel scope and the likes, albeit at the price of mass which will shrink the jump range even further and thus probably will not be worth it.
- how agile the ship will be. This might be the remaining halfway redeeming advantage of the ship.

All in all, everything but the tiny jump range would be allright for me, but a "Courier" with so short jump range is a shame for that name and needs fixing.

i remember a dev said that the courier is very agile, but for the cargo from the screenshot i can say that it won't have very much of it

this ship is to damn expensive for what it is, clearly should have been around 200k, but yea not much is confirmed yet, maybe it's stats are better that we think

Limited cargo space i was expecting. After all, a courier is not a hauler, his task is not to bring huge loads of materials, but to deliver messages and small packages quickly. It's really just the annouced tiny jump range, which does not match the picture and thus hurts.

Hopefully if the jump range truly is as bad as it appears from the sneak peak, the feed back from the beta guys will prompt them to tweak it up. It really makes no sense for a courier to have a lower jump range than the trade ships. It appears that the Hauler and the Type 6 both have considerably larger jump ranges than this ship.... which seems utterly wrong.

Now that the beta is live, it looks like the role of courier wasn't taken into account when designing the Imperial courier. Instead we got a super-eagle.

Who buys a courier ship for dogfights? What a waste.

Hmmm - I'm tentatively hopeful about it still. Everything I'm reading today suggests its very configurable, so if you want to spec it out to go large distances you can. But its MUCH smaller than I expected, and that translates into any extra components having big impacts on jump range. I actually can't wait to try it out. With that wonderful cockpit, and a track-ir setup, if its flexibly configurable for several different tasks, then I suspect I'll be very happy with it.

I think you can get it into the top four for jump range, actually.
