The Open Only Incentive

The Gwankers regard PvP as THEIR open PRIVATE domain and woe betide anyone who transgresses without the secret handshake. I agree with the OP who posted earlier hinting at a Kamikaze kill switch, F-Dev give me the option of turning my ship into a giant FSD enhanced frag bomb that kills anything in a 4km radius, heck if I'm going to get needlessly killed I'd like to go out with a bang.

Before recklessly seconding ill-considered gameplay mechanics designed to arbitrarily punish a playstyle you personally dislike, it behooves oneself to ask:

"Is this a tool that the Gwankers [sic] can use as well? And will it in fact facilitate asymmetrical PvP even more than my own poor decisions have done?"

So, you guys obviously haven't read my posts, You give the impression that Open is for a select few, its their domain, you have to be ready, what exactly does that mean "if you are ready". how ready does one have to be ?.. If one shouldn't venture into open then there should be a big red banner attached to open. Only For Gwankers and those who are ready. those with B.O. should not venture into this void.

Far from it, open is by far the most popular mode.
Just because you don't like it doesn't mean there is a problem.

That you feel the need to call people (veiled) names is just a sign of your immaturity.

Do you have polls to support this? As I remember and this was before the game was released the older player wanted solo mode. So they can play the game without dealing with PvP and relive the Old Elite Fantasy.

As of now there's no point playing in open unless one wants to. If you don't want PvP/ganking, you just go solo or pg and do everything you can do in open be done with it.
But what if there was something in open that everyone wants but you can only get it if you play open?
Here's my idea:
After 4 weeks of open only playing, you get access to "spice" or call it whatever, that gives you a 100-150% FSD boost. There's a module to store it, it gets used up so it needs refills.
This stuff is mined/milked and sold in only one place in the galaxy, that happens to be an anarchy system with a station/city called something like Mos Eisley. It is Dangerous to go there, but you can hire commanders to wing up and escort you in if you're not so sure of yourself in surrounding systems.
Spice is what makes trade faster, exploration more efficient and moving around combat builds less of a pain. Everyone wants it.

Do You?

Definitely don't want this in the game.
Why not add a solo incentive instead?

I'll answer that... Because that would be ridiculous too.

Let people play what they want. No need to pressure them into your personally preferred mode.

I seem to remember that Sandro said that (Open was the most frequented) on some livestream.
Well that could be so. If you can find the live stream then please supply it. But it so easy to be open and in the Deep also in the outer reaches of the Bubble and never have a problem. The areas that people complain about are Major areas like Lave, Starter area, Sol, Founders, any CG just to name a few.

Please note. I would rather have PvP have a red beacon in galaxy map if they kill players for an unjust cause and it stays until they are dead. So Bounty hunters track and kill them.

Life is too short... ;)

P.S. I tend not to play in open too much as I like to play iron-man and the re-qualifying of engineers is such a pain when you can be quickly despatched by a random encounter with an uber-engineered player.

Fdev have said so in a live stream, that Open was by far the most popular mode

Then we have an older post in the forum, about how many do PvE and how many do PvP. and this is what thye had to say about this
we're well aware that the majority of players don't get involved in PvP

Sounds like the post someone said on Cobra MKIV topic. Where they claim The Devs claim it was a mistake. Yet they were too lazy to find it.

Please if you are going to claim something please provide the evidence.

See if you look at my post on 108. I pointed out the outer reaches of the bubble or exploration. Which My explorer is open but in 400 Billion stars I not worried about some PvP attacking me areas I would switch to solo would be close to Colonia or Saga A* stations.

Also my Trader. I stay with the solo. Because I don't want to deal with PvP. I am fine if they can ban PvP. So we can deal with pirates.

See Misty's post above. Sandro Sanmarco: "The people playing in Open is no small group, it's the majority. More people play in Open than the other modes."

I play in open most of the time.
Going to a CG station in a cargo Cutter, maybe not.

If you get a decent player pirate interdict you even better, a bit if banter and a slightly increased jump range. I know this is easy to say when you have lots of money for rebuys, the trouble is you will always the 'I killed 20 players tonight!' boys who dont care that they were in an engineered combat ship and they blew up haulers.

Maybe one way to boost Open play would be to have a very small bonus to how much your ranks go up in Combat, Trade and Exploration?

You can say Majority but they don't say the location of that Majority is. Is it the Bubble or is it the Deep space. I doubt it in any major hubs like Colonia, Sol, Lave unless you want a death wish.

Why don't you open your eyes and see how big galaxy is and stop Ignoring major hubs and gankers. See that video so veg on info. They don't tell us how many people switch modes because of the problem at Major hubs.

I would support an open bonus for pp and bgs activities. Those are two areas where playing in Solo/PG is a clear advantage, where paradoxically players are in direct competition.

For everything else I'm less concerned. If Joe Blogs spends all his time in solo in a shield-less Cutter getting insanely rich... oh well? I don't feel like it's worth fighting the forum-warriors over it.

I have no idea what you are on about, I just mentioned that I remembered Sandro saying Open was the most frequented. Why you are raving about the rest of that stuff to me I have firstly no inkling and secondly even less interest.

I believe what he meant was in general there are more players starting the game in Open mode overall, than there are players starting PG and Solo in total. Which means, Open isn't empty of players. There's plenty of them in Open, however, they're spread out, so if gankers feel there are no targets to be found, it's not because of the lack of players, but because of the vast space in where they can be and instancing issues. That's why CGs and POIs of different kinds are the hotspots. The chance of finding someone to gank in common space is very low. There are times I've been in Open and haven't encountered a single person. Anyway, considering that most people play in Open, why should there be a reward for playing in Open? I don't think there's any argument for rewarding Open play.

What if 49% of people play in open, 28% of people play in solo and 23% of people in GP? The statement would still hold true. "More people play in open than the other modes".

Even though if you combined solo and PG you'd get 51% of people. As a matter of fact, this is precisely what the ED mega survey found: https://odysseus1.typeform.com/report/ITdIHn/wm2i

Sandro's statement is basically useless because no numbers were provided. It's also very misleading, implying than the majority of people play in open which is -not- the same as saying that out of the 3 game modes open is the most popular.

Also to put an end to this pointless discussion. Open only can legally never happen because consoles. You would need PS+/Gold to play the game which is not something they can change after you already bought the game.
