Track Rides The Plunge Log Flume - And how I did it

Hi everyone. A few days ago I posted this on the Planet Coaster Pictures thread, so I thought I'd show you all how I got the splashdown to be part of the terrain. This was in The Great Tree Scenario and was my first Log Flume.


It's dead simple. If you're not too bothered about the ground height at the splashdown, as long as the ground is totally flat where it'll go, and you have the auto tunnelling on, it's just a case of trial and error.


If you want something more precise, or it has to fit into a particular space, here's how you do it. I'm just building a small, simple flume for this example.



1: Use the Flatten To Foundation tool and make sure the area is totally flat.

2: A bit random, but put a 4m wall roughly where you want the splashdown to start. This is important as it will give the exact height you need for the track.

3: Place a station, making sure the floor lines up with the top of the wall.

4: Make sure the Auto-Tunneling feature is on and place the top of a drop.

5: Place the start of the Splashdown. You should just see the top of the track poking through.

6: Lay a few of the Splashdown Mid Section pieces.

7: Delete the station and top of the drop as this isn't going to be where the station will be.

8: Build the drop as you want it and put a station at the top of it so you can test if your Splasdown section is long enough.

9: Test it so you know where it slows enough to end the Splashdown.

10: Place the Splashdown End piece.

You can also delete the station at the top of the drop if your station is going to be somewhere else.

11: You can take the track back to where you want it to end and create your station.

You can even finish the track now and join it to the top of the drop you've made. You'll then have a full circuit with the station exactly where you want it.


12: Using the Push tool in the Terrain tab, you can now dig out your Splashdown. Use it on a really small setting and rather than keeping your mouse button pressed down, USE SMALL, QUICK PRESSES of your mouse button. This gives you more control and if you end up revealing a bit of the concrete edge of the Splashdown, you can easily use the Undo button to cover it again.

Now you can start using scenery to decorate it.

Just when i was wondering what you are working on, i found this thread haha. All these threads go so fast you actually miss the best stuff sometime :(. Anyways, i love it. I stared at that last screenshot for 2 minutes and still discovering new details :). Good job! and thanks for the tutorial :) This is how i want my log flumes :).

This one was while I was playing the scenario and I just wondered If it was possible to sink the splashdown into the ground. After a bit of tinkering, I got it to work. So it wasn't even a little side project. So thanks again, you lovely people.

My current Planet Coaster status today and last night is repairing Blast Point and ripping out and replacing quite a lot of concrete. [cry] I'd say at least it keeps me off the streets, but I'm just about to go out for a meal and then a few drinks so it doesn't really [big grin]

Thanks. I totally agree though. It would be nice if you could just build your drop and then you automatically get the nice terrain pool at the bottom. Using the 4m wall trick takes the guesswork out of it though so it's pretty easy.
