The profanity filter LOL

I called my aspx "Miss Muffet" cos thats my daughters nick name. Other cmdrs said they could only see "Miss ****et" 😅
Then today i saw a "Federal ***ault ship. The filter needs some work man.
Its wierd because the text chat seems to let people type anything they want and broadcast it to all local players. Also it doesn't tell me if the name I've chosen is ok or if some letters will become a * instead.

Coming next: all letters can be used offensively, so therefore all letters will be censored! We thankyou for helping making Elite a family game suitable for those even hardly old enough to go to the loo unassisted.

Epiphany! The game is aimed at children. That explains a lot.

Yeah. These days, I wouldn't really consider either of the words they are filtering as being particularly profane anyway. The one I heard was a ship containing the word Assassin.

Both words have non rude meanings - one's another name for a donkey and the other is something you can keep you hands warm in.

When the filter, filters the games own ship name, you really have to wonder who built it and if they were actually lucid at the time.

Next store surprise: "Uncensored ship names, only $8 each!!

I'd pay for that. I can think of some great dirty ship names.

Ironically the censoring makes those sound a lot more dirty than they originally were…

Yeah. I never noticed the "m u f f" in Miss Muffet before. LOL
Anyway so i changed it to "Earhart" but then i thought that might be unlucky cos she went missing. So i went for "Valentina", the first woman in space.

I know I saw an FD post in a thread about it a while back so they do know about this at least. This should just be in the main game options: Filter Language On/Off. Pretty silly to censor the ships with chat open as it wants to be. .___. Cover both and toggle it for all-around win (except for coders, sry but go do it). Add a parental lock if it's that big a deal.

That being said, we are allowed by this game to shoot down civilian and police vessels, with our hold full of unregulated slaves we're taking to sell to an industrial pirate dictatorship so there's that. >___> Maybe their parents could be okay with some cursewords and creative text-symbol art on the side of a spaceship that is likely only going to be seen in somebody's selfie captures.

Wouldn't be so bad if you could actually check the filter somewhere, without having to ask another CMDR.

I'm still wondering what the filter makes from my "The B!tch Is Back" (nope, nothing profane there - that's actually inspired from a song by Sir Elton John :p ).

OK, if you watch the videos of this song, some of which apparently were good enough for British TV, you could definitely get an impression of profnity, or at least the attempt to provoke the homophobe part of the audience...

My pants resemble that remark after making the mistake of going to Laksak in open with ~75mcr in exploration data.

Yeah its ridiculous but it seems to be a continuing theme at Frontier. I imagine going into work there is like a bible study session, they come across as a bit uptight.
