The Proteus Wave video never goes away

OK, two PC accounts. One in the bubble and the other in Colonia. Logging in to both Horizons and Odyssey dozens of times and even letting the video play out the next time I start the game it is still there! Maybe Frontier could move it to YouTube (which they probably did) and leave me alone clicking the mouse or ESC to bypass it. Maybe a launcher option to disable startup videos including the basic Horizons and Odyssey. I've seen them thousands of times. ED is a great game. I get it. But I want to launch the game not watching videos endlessly to start it.

What do you think?

Regards

Click the mouse button or pres the ESC key to skip it.

For a more permanent solution, rename the file per this...

From your suggested post.

You can go into the game files and delete/rename Movies\SalvationFinale.webm. Can also do the same to the Frontier logo videos while you're there.

It worked deleting all of them! I did a folder backup just in case. For me it was the C:/Program Files (x86), Frontier, ED Launch, Products folder to find them. No more startup videos including basic Horizons and Odyssey videos starting the game. You are currently my best friend EVER...well except with Chippers who barks a lot and has four paws. :)

I assume a file verification will put them back, so one might need to revsit after subsequent updates, like the upcoming U14.
In the past people have swapped out the menu background movie file and I assume there is nothing to stop anyone (until update 14 or any new update) from subbing something else in this cutscene.

I'll do a launcher file verification later to see if you are correct. Meanwhile I'm loving a login without videos at the moment.

UPDATE: With a client side update from Frontier the video files were reinstalled including the Proteus wave.

I think I read something about it leaving crashed processes (or reports) behind to be seen by some windows component/utility, but I don't remember the details. Maybe best to replace them with really short clips of nothing.

Manual verification will bring them back, but updates won't - at least on Steam; not sure about the Frontier or Epic launchers.

Yeah, it apparently generates an error in Event Viewer. Not sure why, but it doesn't really affect anything - I've been doing this to the Frontier logo videos for years and didn't notice until someone pointed it out recently.

It's perfectly normal to have errors in the event viewer, in fact I have never seen a Windows without it. Even on clean installations...

Indeed; but these errors are generated in the application logs from the ED process:

It doesn't matter of course, the game still works the same. But it seems these errors only generate when exiting the game if you've deleted video files. Odd. (But inconsequential.)

To the OP's point, the video was okay the first one or two times. But as you watch it more it really isn't a very great video. Watching it more than a few times emphasizes this.

IMO the video is fine as an ingame video clip, but not worthy for a software entertainment company to make a big deal about. Its not a show case video.

Come on, this thread is not a great thread either, but people still enjoy making a big deal of it.

If you played The Witcher 3, every time you load a save game there is a short recap of the story. I hope this is similar and we'll see more videos as the story continues.

Maybe kinky videos would work. But don't tell Yamiks on YouTube often having sexual comments discussing ED. He would love it! Sad to say I enjoy them. What is wrong with me?

I know the feeling, I'm often wondering what's wrong with me, not that I can stand watching Yamiks videos.. :)

It sounds like a good idea to replace the cutscene with a saucy video, not that I have any videos but I do have some nice pics of Aisling in the nude :D
