General / Off-Topic The Punisher might get canceled

It got cancelled, just like all other netflix shows based on marvel characters, like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Only Punisher season 2 and Jessica Jones season 3 will still air, because filming was already completed.

It's a shame, even though I'm not a big fan of superhero shows or movies (except Batman of course), these Netflix shows were quite good. Well, all except Iron Fist... It's a shame to see Punisher go... It's Netflix show, plus it's appearance on Daredevil's season 2 were probably the best Punisher ever on the either TV or cinema.

I feel like all this incoming brigade of separate streaming services will result is in me (and probably a lot of others) just going back to piracy. I was very happy to dispense 20 quid a month for a service like Netflix, but I sure as fart won't be paying 20 bucks X 5 ou 6 different streaming services, I'd rather go back to torrents and community made subtitles.

I suspect they'll be back in due time on Disneys new streaming channel, to augment 'The Mandalorian' and 'Untitled Cassian Andor project' in gathering subscriptions from older nerdy types.

Disney can't very well run a competing streaming service while handing their flagship franchise material to Netflix.
Clearly they are going to have to consolidate their content and launch it on their own platform. The existing series probably can't return, but the Marvel properties are potentially goldmines for reboots.

Of course the multiplicity of platforms is going to be a problem for consumers.

Almost as if Netflix does anything right as of recent... 2 years. And they are toast.
They are about to ruin Witcher and have a massive flop on their hands. Can't be good for business...They think they can be arrogant and openly hostile towards fans, but this will be the torpedo that will sink it. Even ignoring the fact, my prediction is - the show will be terrible on it's own merit. You just have to look up what kind of nutjobs writing it.

Problem is that Netflix crafted deal so good that Disney won't be able to use those characters for years. So basically they did this just to cease competition, not to get characters back.

If Marvel as producing studio is amazing (despite what I think about their movies sometimes), then Disney is...well Disney.

Other than Luke Cage, I really disliked the other shows.
Esp Iron fist and daredevil.

I didn't really like Luke Cage all that much.

I do get the the theme of the hero's morality and ethics being their biggest hurdle, but there is only so much idiocy I can watch before I'm left frustrated at why this guy didn't just all these people and save everyone a lot of trouble. If a handful of murders of obvious villains at the beginning of the season could have saved many more lives by the end, and this sort of thing happens every season, then the hero is being an idiot and the plot has issues. Luke Cage was one of the worst of the Netflix Marvel shows in this regard. Cage was way too much of a goodie goodie.

Of course, there is also the extra suspension of disbelief required when people can be reliably knocked out without killing or maiming them, have them just get up five seconds later, or learning to 'play dead'. The therapeutic index of a blow to the head is pretty damn narrow and almost entirely unpredictable. However, this sort of thing is a problem with most action shows. The opposite also applies...a lot of things that appear to instantly kill or disable people in TV would more plausibly leave a fair portion of people able to function, even if they appeared dead...apparently only the main characters can benefit from this. Oddly enough, these sort of things bother me a lot more than overt supernatural abilities (Cage's durability and strength, or Daredevil's senses) or absurd degrees of luck and fortitude (the Frank Castle never suffering any permanent harm from getting the crap kicked out of him twice an episode, and always being fine after a nap).

Realism isn't precisely the same as verisimilitude and the latter absolutely makes superhero media better, as does consistency.

The point of superhero TV shows is 'what if', and if the mundane aspects are depicted implausibly, it undermines everything else.

Nope, its just comic book TV best not taken overly seriously.

Honestly i'd like to see more The Dark Knight type movies or shows. I think The Punisher is as close as it gets to TDK.. imo. Alot of sources are already talking about S3 but if the show is cancelled i'd like to see the main actor have a role in Judge Dredd: Mega City One with Karl Urban.
