PvP The PvP Subforum's Purpose

I very much liked something CMDR Cknarf posted in another thread. He's given me permission to use that to start this discussion.

What is the PvP Forum for?

1) Leaning to be better combat pilots especially in regards to combat vs. other Commanders.
2) Discussing tactics.
3) Discussing builds.
4) Offering advice and mentoring to anyone that wants it - especially rookies.

Complaint threads do not belong here.

So what do you fine rapscallions think? Can we work together to get this ship turned around?

Let them complain, some of them are against PvP, which is fine, its not like its going to get removed from the game, so let them complain makes the forum more lively.

Until FDev makes any attempt whatsoever to unify PvP combat and PvE combat into just "combat", I guess this forum also has to be where any discussion of top-end combat balance issues and how to resolve them happen, too.

A lot of combat balance issues are most obviously demonstrated in PvP, and it seems anything that can even be remotely considered related to PvP ultimately gets swept over here.

I think a lot of complaining-about-ganking threads are started in dangerous discussions (where they belong to imho) and are then quickly pushed to PvP by mods for whatever reason.

Those threads are super valuable. If we could do it like the BGS forum does - active and experienced combat pilots, no salt, all business, keep it professional and deal with the game as it is right now - that would be fantastic.

Those absolutely need to stay out of here. If the OP wants to roll in and find out how to survive or fight back absolutely roll on in and start a new thread in the PvP Forum.

It would require curators that didn't sympathize with the half dozen people who've made it their life's mission to derail any/all conversations on these topics.

Edit: I would almost advise not commenting on my post at all lest it turn into a discussion about moderation, which is not my intention at all. I just wish that we had someone who was actually interested in helping keep these subjects on topic instead of consigning them to the garbage bin.

It won't get removed, true, but how many people just avoid this Subforum all together since those complaining threads get moved here?

Maybe when they do we need to gank the thread, so to speak, and turn it into a positive thing.

This subforum serves one beautiful purpose.

It is a place to for the mod team to dump anything remotely PVP based.
Which if left in Dangerous Discussion, would trigger the PVE community into either ranting about how we should rethink our sad lives or hammering the report button moments after every post.

PVE mods are not allowed to moderate in this Sub and because of that, we have slightly more scope to actually talk about stuff without fear of instant infractions for upsetting someone delicate.

Seriously look in the recently closed "Salty about being ganked in Open thread", the posts in that and imagine how long they would have lasted in ANY other part of this forum.

In theory I think it would be served best for people to discuss strategy and builds and such.

Unfortunately, other threads crop up that would be best served being in Hotel California.

Report the complaints and have the moderators lock them.

The easy fix for each of these would be a lockdown of a moved thread that had moved into a toxic area.

And once a PVP thread moves into the mode discussion, move it out of here and into Modes....

Someone mentioned that this section is the only one without stickies at the top. I checked and they were correct.

Would any knowledgeable PvP players be able to compile a list of threads which are of use to people? Perhaps they could ask someone in the mods team to sticky them.

Pretty much. It's used as a dumping ground for threads that the mods want to sweep under the rug, despite them not belonging in this subforum.

The main thing I have against the plethora of complaint threads in here is that the OP's don't bother looking what subforum they're in. This is the PvP subforum, player vs player. If they complain about "getting griefed" or ganked, people here are going to tell them to take responsibility for their own survival and give advice on how to beat the other players in the scenarios they're describing, whether that's by highwaking+surviving or outright beating them in combat. Coming here just to whine about C&P, PvP being bad, open being "empty", and other such drivel should be cracked down on by moderators.

If such threads are started and/or cultivated on here then the moderators should handle it, and if such threads are moved here from other parts of the forum, then that's just bad moderating.

For those that want it yes. Like any community, it's good to know where to go, for advice and information on a preferred play style.
