I'm certainly not up on all the latest Guardian or Thargoid news ... I'm barely even up-to-date on Galnet as it seems, to me, that the storyline that began with Hengist Duval falling ill has been forgotten and buried. I've stopped worrying about overarching story lines because I've come to doubt they'll ever reach a conclusion. I stopped following "the story" around the time Frontier started pushing everyone toward the Thargoids and started temporarily closing down Forum threads that weren't discussing the bugs (Thargoids, not glitches) so that we'd all jump over to the "Aliens" sub-thread.
I remember promises from the developers that our relationships with any potential aliens would depend on how we, the players, acted during our encounters with the aliens. So far the only tools we've been given to interact with them have been tools of war. Why no competitive CGs to gauge mankind's intentions toward the Thargoids? You know ... "if Side A wins then mankind develops a tool to help communicate with the Thargoids but if Side B wins you get a cool new laser that clips off their wings".
Thargoid logic doesn't have to be questionable because the whole point is to push the game in a single direction: war with the Thargoids. I'm guessing the developers grew weary of having to shuck content when players didn't move in the direction that they anticipated ... so now they've chosen to just herd us all in the direction they want us to go in.
Sorry folks. I know I'm sounding a bit bitter. I try not to be. I'll go back to hunting for Raxxla now ...
