The Rift is on sale for $399

Are you suggesting to take medication to play longer in VR?

Re-read my post. I said " Gravol does help (IF) see that IF there???) you get some vr nausea" . No where did I suggest you take gravol to extend play.

Your-- "You shouldn't need any medication at any point or you're doing it wrong "- point is just silly ". That's like saying if you get sick from the motion of a boat the first time your on one you shouldn't take a seasick pill-just puke all over the place and your "riding the boat wrong". Some get VR nausea when they first try it. You can't stop nausea till you get it. It is the nausea that is the body telling them to stop. A gravol (an over the counter anti-nauseu, medication can help them alleviate it. No reason people should have to suffer. Also how severe and how suddenly it happens is not based on one person. What and how people take medication for anything is their business period. Most just read the directions on the box.

I'm sorry if this has been asked, i would ask on the oculus forum but there's no hope of a reply from the marketers

Why is it $399 in the US but £399 in the UK?
$399 is £305, it is not £399
We are being charged an extra $120 compared to our american friends.
That's pretty ghastly. don't you think?

You see this on most electronic items...

Supposedly this (across all such examples) is down to our taxes and higher costs...

Always been the case with ANYTHING you can buy in the states and the same item in the UK!

well we're being conned.
the similarity of `the cost number` across the spectrum of industries and price ranges, simply cannot be, unless we're being conned.
If i bought a HDK2 it'd cost me $399, it'd cost me £305-310 even if i bought it from the UK. maybe a little more for shipping.
It would not cost me £399

but no, not oculus. we are being outright conned. This has nothing to do with tax.

No, it's a culture difference in regards to where the sales tax get added onto to the cost.
In the states list prices do not include the sales tax, that is added on later in the purchasing process and varies with regards to what state you live in.

In Europe it's pracctically always included in the listed\advertised price.

And then a little something something for shipping.

But yea, generally we get screwed, but only by a little bit.

taxes can't convert $799 to £799 or $399 to £399 without a change in the algorithm itself.
unfortunately Razer is doing the same, the HDK2 is £399 if ordered from the UK

I am confident that companies are just replacing $ with £ and pocketing the change. the inevitable overflow.

It can't = same for same, every time. it'd be £356 instead of $299, £675 instead of $599 or something.
There would be variation.

it's inconceivable that the same laws applied to all numbers will result in a simple change of $ into £ for every figure.
Someone, is pocketing, the extras.

Do you mean to say you live in a world where people read instructions ?

Must be a nice place, can I move there ?

I thinks as far as meds goes it's "Please Don't Let Me OD Land" In a lot of cases, I would think if you don't live there, you don't live at all. I know what you mean, though. Most people don't read system requirements either.

Raised a support ticket at Oculus yesterday asking when will I get the item I ordered over a week ago... Nada so far!

You'd be hit with a shed load of tax if its sent in "properly"...

I just order it and looking forward to the experience, but now I do wonder about one thing.

I had laser eye surgery done a few years back, had one eye done for close up vision and the master eye for distance. This way I don't need to wear eye glasses for reading or viewing afar.

Question is...Wonder how will this affect me using the Oculus or if it will not cause an issue.

Everything is focused as though it's far away, so the distance-focused eye will see everything clearly. If you're used to one being in focus all the time, you probably won't notice much except that it's just the one eye that will be clear all the time, instead of switching which eye is clear based on distance.

Just to chime in here...I bought ED about 2 months ago along with a HOTAS, and it was very fun. Soon as I saw the Rift sale I bought it on a whim, and let me tell you this game in VR is astounding. Not much AAA support for VR yet (fallout 4 coming soon, hopefully playable on rift too but that's another topic). If you like this game (and especially if you've never tried VR before)are on the fence, just do it you wont regret it. The scale of this game in VR is incredible, you'll waste hours just flying through space taking it all in. I had a (very little) bit of VR sickness the first 2 times but you build up a tolerance pretty quickly. I put the headset on my GF last night and she was walking around my ship saying how amazing everything looks, started to do barrel rolls and she started screaming and holding onto things haha. A lot of free apps for Rift and again most of the games are short and mainly showcase the possibilities, but honestly this game is almost worth it alone to get rift at this price point, and along with the touch controllers (and 2 sensors) included its a good deal. Only thing is you need a pretty good GPU but I only have a GTX 1060 and VR works fine with it. My CPU is also pretty weak (older i5 3.2ghz) but again, no issues in playing this game. The resolution im sure is much better on more powerful rigs but even running things at med/high as I am now with no issues its really something you need to experience if you like this game at all.

Again if you're on the fence, do it...you'll love it.

It should work like normal life, only no need for reading things close up.

If you want I'm sure you can get a prescription contact lens for the one nerarsighted eye for VR use, or get one lense from either VR-lenslab or equivalent.
